Fab Festive Fun |
Well, he did it again... the wine was drunk, the mince pie & carrot nibbled, and in their place..... presents, and all without making a sound, what an impressive man Father Christmas is. So we had to wait no longer, the presents were at our mercy, and what a lot of presents there were, of every shape, size & colour. There was something for everyone, so long as your name was Edie or Alfie, poor old Mum & Dad hardly got a look in. There were dressing up things for me, a DIY set for Alf, toys, books & games galore. First at home, then more at Nanna & Grandad's, then more when Grandma & Grumps came to see us, what good children we must have been to deserve all these lovely things. I'd like to say that we were good after Christmas, but in truth, it hasn't lasted, this good will to all men stuff went out of the window some days ago, and we've picked up where we left off.....that special brother-sister, love-hate relationship. With everyone else indulging in lots of food & drink, it was only fair that we did likewise, eating as many sweets & cakes as our little tummies could fit in. Luckily we will both be doing swimming lessons now, so I'll be able to burn off any excesses. Trips to the pub with our good friend Amanda (who's crazy puppy dog tried to lick me & Alf to death - yuk!) and a very late night with Annnalise & Harvey (after midnight), to see in the New Year (Alf, Jo & Louis quit long before), but I made them suffer the next day, I was sooooo grumpy!) were more highlights in a busy time. So big, big thank you's too everyone who got me or Alf a Christmas present, we love them all. Alf even made special call to Santa to thank him personally. I know it is January now, so it'll soon be Mummy's birthday, and our skiing trip to France... when the fun comes, it just doesn't stop. Alf's just fallen asleep next to me, and I'm not far behind, so until next time... Happy New Year chums. |

Christmas Countdown |
Christmas is nearly here, we are both getting really excited. Father Christmas has visited both Alf & me, so we must have been good boys & girls. I do wonder how Father Christmas can get around as much as he does... maybe he's got twins or something? We've been busy making cards and decorations for the house & the tree, which is looking lovely with the pretty lights on. Alf was much more helpful this year as he didn't just pull everything off like he did last time. No more school until next year now and when I go back I'll have to take my own dinner, as I'll be staying all day... how exciting. Just me at skiing again as Annalise had a party... no matter as we got more goes on the sledge & I practiced doing some more turns, just like in France on the snow.... I think Ray our teacher was impressed. Annalise & Harvey came over to play & have lunch, and what a great time we had running, reading, bouncing & very little fighting.....for once. While it was impossible for Alf to build anything with guests around, when all was quiet, what a construction was made (with a bit of help from his friends) One week to go and counting............. |

Acting Up, and NOT being Naughty |
Once again it was time to dress to impress, and demonstrate my acting talents to one & all. My traveller impression in my school play passed without comment from Alf who came to watch, silence of jealousy or apathy? Then another show by my Dancing School, when we got to dress up as soldiers and march about the stage. Everyone came to watch, except Grandma who was not very well, which was a real shame, but I'm sure we'll see each other again soon. Alf tells me he spent more time running around than I did, as he couldn't keep still, seeing all these people dancing about on stage. I really do enjoy all the dancing, and seeing all the older girls doing their things, next years shows should be really good. The skiing is coming on, although it was only me this week, no Annalise, as she was decorating her Christmas tree. I'm doing ours tomorrow as it's only just been dug out of the ground and it is still wet. |

Bedlam at Bedford Brewsters |
The festive fun is really starting to flow now, the candle is being lit every day (me & Alf see if we can blow it over across the dinner table... no luck so far). The chocs on the Barbie calendar are a health breakfast supplement... I wish it could be December all the time!. I'm in a play at school, I'm a traveller.... no, no, no, not one of those people that turns up on the nearby field every year in their caravan, makes lots of mess & then goes away again, a real traveller, wandering about... although I'm not really sure why, or where to!. As long as it involves dressing up & playing to an audience I don't really mind what I am. We are practicing hard for our next dancing performance, a Christmas spectacular, I still don't know what I'll be... could it be a duck that looks a bit like a snowman? The longest drive ever for lunch recently, but it was definitely worth it as my cousin Robert was there. We had a great time in the Fun Factory running around, climbing, sliding & being thrown in the ball pit. Alf had a good time trying to keep up, but was far more interested in his very floaty bear balloon. Cousin Rowan had really grown, and so has her hair, I thought she'd trip over it, it was so long. She didn't like the look of Daddy (who can blame her!), and would only play with Mummy.... who really didn't mind. Sophie really gets about now and was game for a bit of climbing and ball pool action, although the twisty slide was a bit fast & steep for her (although I must make it clear that neither I or Alf had anything to do with getting her down it). Well I must go and practice my travelling.... night. |

Class of 2004 |
Whilst I accept that some of my talent is natural, just to prove that I am attending an educational establishment to extend these skills, an extract from the official 2004 school calendar. Yes, its me in the middle of the front row, with the wild hair... I cannot be blamed for my stylist being ill just before the photo shoot, and unable to tame this unruly mop! Me and Alf had a great time swimming the other day, he's almost as keen to get on the slide as me. I now go down without even my rubber ring, but sink as soon as I try to swim without it. It was thirsty work, and we're still not sure why we got such funny looks from people for eating ice-creams, although I have to admin it was a chilly walk to the car afterwards. The Christmas excitement is starting to build..... we open the first door on our chocolate calendars soon, and we've got a fab candle thing to set light to every day......I hope we've been good enough for Santa to bring us something. Even if we haven't, is it too late to start now?. Let us know won't you. |

Horsey, Horsey, Please do stop! |
I hope I haven't already peaked in my skiing career. Last time was a disaster, I was tired after a full on dance class, and couldn't really be bothered... if I'm honest. The result being I spent more time on the floor, than on my skis, however I did perk up when they got some sledges out, as all you have to do is sit down and steer... easy. I have promised to try harder next week, if there is a next week. There needs to be, as I learn that we will be going to see Ben & Catherine in January, when there will hopefully be some real snow to ski on. The other thing to mention was the re-birth of my equestrian career. Having said in this very diary that I'd never go on a horse again, one of my school friends persuaded me to have a ride on her pony. It was just a slow walk around her field, being held on, as she'd forgotten the saddle (the seat I think), so nothing too adventurous. There was me thinking that cats were high maintenance, now I know different. Horses have to be fed twice a day (but unlike our cats they don't eat in the kitchen) and they have to be brushed & cleaned, (our cats do themselves). Much too much like hard work for my liking. Things are going well at school (I'm getting stickers for being a good girl). Alf's swimming is getting better (when he can be bothered) & he's learning some great jumping tricks (he's now landing his jumps off the arm of the sofa.... taught by the master). We now have some great chats, as you can't shut him up anymore, trouble is he now can answer back, and he's getting stronger. Have I got a pretender to my throne? |

Anyone for Tea |
After my 3rd skiing lesson I think things are coming together....at least I can now get up myself when I fall over! Otherwise Alf & I have had a pretty low-key time, although we have got a new afternoon playmate. Catherine, who's really grown up, she's nine, and lives 2 houses away, has been coming round after school. She's fun as she's fast to run after, but good at entertaining Alf, when I want some free time. She also likes helping Mummy with making the tea. She normally goes home for her tea, but this week she's going to be staying to eat with us, as Daddy is going away (again) for a few days for some more training. I don't know on what, as he was just the same when he came back last time..... just an excuse to get away from Alf & me I reckon, he just can't handle the pace. I'll get Alf to get some more skiing photo's for next time, so you can see any improvements for yourselves. |

Firework Feast |
I was right, a double header of dancing & skiing does leave my little legs feeling very tired indeed. Skiing progress of a sort though, I'm falling over less, no thanks to Annalise who pulled me over, as I tried to help her up... thanks! Me and Alf are not normally ones for loud noises, unless of course we are the cause of them. This time there was an exception, a feast of fireworks from the safety of inside Joe's house with Annalise, Harvey, Louise & Alf, also amazed at the rockets, coloured stars, bangs, pops & wizz's...... hopefully we'll do it again soon. The only downer was that I burnt my hand on a sparkler.....yes, I'm a bonfire night accident statistic. Fortunately nothing serious, just this funny white mark across one of my fingers, that hurt soooooo much. Nice to see our friend Amanda again, first time in a long while, sorry we were not up longer, the hectic day took its toll. Batteries recharged, it was off for a brief hello to cousin Sophie, and on to Grandme & Grumps for some fun entertainment thanks to Grumps fooling around as usual, and a nice walk with Grandma & Dad. We were shocked to come back from our afternoon walk to find Mummy asleep on the sofa...... are we really that much hard work? |

No Snow Skiing |
Alf's toys continue to give us much to play with, and of course even more to argue over... welcome to our version of Hells Kitchen! A pretty subdued time, after the condensed mayhem of Alf's birthday, but in some ways a welcome relief. It was quite good fun, loads slower than real snow, but we did have some animal pictures to ski (or really shuffle) to. I wonder if they have them in France? Many thanks to my grown up friend Louise for sending me a picture of Dad at work. I always wondered what he actually did, and from the evidence (and as I know, the camera never lies), not very much really. I looks much like school really, just with bigger toys to play with, and very similar squiggly pictures on the walls. Back for another ski next time, and dancing returns as well, my poor legs are going to feel like they are about to fall off! |
23/10/2004 2 Years Old |
Big Boy Alf |
Alf is getting all grown up now..... he's a whole 2 years old, and now only 2 years younger than me. While I went to school, he partied with his friends!....thank very much, I'll remember to invite you to my next party! He made up for it with a gathering of Nanna's & Grandads, on his real birthday, and what a lucky boy he was, presents, presents & more presents....they just kept on coming. Lovely things they were as well, a fab kitchen for our playhouse, a groovy wooden train set, on which we've already been re-enacting great train crashes of the past on. Books, puzzles, DIY sets... and that is only what I can remember. Alf has promised that he will write & thank everyone (I expect I'll end up writing most of them), but for now, Alf says a huge thank you for all of his lovely things. Just as I thought the fun had peaked, then we rose again.... going to the zoo, zoo, zoo, we're going to the zoo, zoo, zoo.... sorry, I just can't get that out of my head. Anyway, off to the zoo with Jo, Louis, Kirsty & Toby. What a fun time we all had seeing all those funny animals, I think my favourites were the little monkeys, or the Lima's, they looked even more cuddly than Lilly the cat. Alf is still trying to convince me that he saw a man knocking nails into a horses feet with a hammer. Now, I might only be 4, but I know you do not do things like that to animals... I thought zoo's were where they looked after animals..... have I got it all horribly wrong......better go off & think about that one. Technical difficulties mean at the moment no secret pictures of Alf's birthday, but I'll keep at it, just for you readers. |

Miracle Drugs |
What a difference a week makes, from sick bed to sorted, all thanks to that yucky medicine. Back to school and back to full minxing, the dream team of Edie & Alf are again at full throttle (as he was spared the lurg). Had another great afternoon with Annalise, Thursday's really are so much fun, with Alf away at nursery, we have the place to ourselves. This week it was trampoline lessons for Annalise, unless her Mum or Dad ask, then I know nothing of her new found bouncing skills! We now have full lighting in the playhouse, so evening playtime will be so much fun, and it looks so cosy from the outside, with the light on, and dark in the garden..... clever boy Daddy. To test both our recoveries we demanded to go swimming, and boy what a great time we had. for the 1st time it was Mummy that wanted to get out 1st, we would have happily stayed longer than the hour we had already been in. Alf showed us some of his impressive swimming, those lessons definitely helping him improve, and he taught me the art of crazy jumping off the side, head 1st, bottom 1st, tummy 1st.... he tries them all. Every time fully underwater and up with a splutter & a laugh. I just had to have a go, and with the water quite shallow the first few tries at swimming without my rubber ring. Not too bad, but still much room for improvement. Hey, ho, off to school we go.... until Wednesday anyway, then I'm on holiday (yes, again already). |

Almost a Gonner! |
Friends, what a time I've had.... and we are not talking
good! I've been to the brink of death & back...... To hospital twice, stabbed with sharp metal objects, had my brain nearly sucked out, unable to breathe, one eye nearly closed, sore bits in my mouth... and that is just a flavour of my ailments. As you are no doubt wondering what I have been afflicted with, I'll try and remember as best I can. Firstly Influenza, not just a cold, but the real deal, though fortunately not from Bey-jing (wherever that is, cos that's really bad). It was however bad enough for me as my poor nose is red-raw from all the snot (where does it all come from!). Next, an infection around my eye, that if not sorted out can damage your eye (lovely). This was so attractive, and looked like someone had punched me in the eye. Lastly, just as I was over the worst of this lovely Alf gives me his Hand, Foot & mouth disease. We're just waiting to see if Alf gets my lurg, but so far he tells me he feels fine (and is certainly playing about like he's 100%). Well these hospital places, I'd forgotten about them, my broken ankle - (thanks Grumps), had faded into a distant memory. There were just so many sick people everywhere. If these are the places to make you better, then getting better hurts! They wanted some of my blood, but as it lives inside me, they wanted to go in and get some out. Hurt..... they had 4 people (including Daddy) holding me down, to give me this pain in my hand, and this horrible tube sticking out of me.....yuk! Anyway, I survived, and now have lots of medicine (which tastes horrible, but supposedly is good for you... right), and I'm just starting to feel a bit better (and hopefully able to go back to school soon, as I've missed loads. Ben and Catherine's did visit but I just wasn't in the mood, so Alf kept them entertained... thanks mate.At least they were talking about skiing, so looks like another holiday in the snow.... fab. Finally, sorry to Harvey for missing your part, I hope Alf explained why I wasn't there.... Thanks for the party bag.... great whistle. |

Prettied Up Playhouse |
So the limelight has faded, and once again I return to
plain old Edie or Brundall... sounds like a Cinderella story! Now all my classmates have been bored by story, as have 'the girls' as like to call them (a group of older friends, 9&10 years old) that like to play around in the close, there is no-one left to tell. Dad had the pleasure of our company over the past few days, as Mum was again in residence in her 2nd home, the Ski Club. We had another great tour of DIY shops, where we get to try out all the showers, baths and toilets (but not for real). We must have been good as we went to the garden Centre, and a swell as buying some plants we got some sweets. Not your normal sweets though, here you can choose from all the sweets you can think of, and put a few of each in a bag, so there are lots of yummy things for me & Alf to munch through. The shopping trip got us some paving slabs, sand & little lights. After much hard work by Daddy, we now have a smart entrance to our playhouse & lighting, so we can see in the dark....we'll definitely have to sleep in there some time. After such a high, I feel a bit flat, so hopefully Ben & Catherine's visit next week will be a welcome tonic for both of us. |

Its ShowTime! |
Wow, what a week, I'm only now getting my head back together, after being a star on a very big stage. Annalise & me have been practicing some special dances in our Saturday class for a show, that much we knew. What we didn't realise was that we'd be doing the show in front of hundreds of people, on a big stage, in a theatre in Yarmouth!!!!!! Luckily we had no idea until it was too late and the curtain went up, and there they all were.... thankfully were were dressed as teddy bears at first, so the fur partly hid the fear! The day did begin strangely as we went to Yarmouth and I was left to practice, with all my chums, while Mum, Dad & Alf went off on their bikes (Alf had a great time, looking at these big windmills that grow out of the sea.... what is all that about???????). Then it was on with the 1st of my 4 costumes, and onto the stage. Fortunately I didn't see anyone I recognised at first in the crowd, so concentrated on getting my dancing right. When we'd finished I couldn't resist a little wave to the crowd, as I knew Mum, Dad and both Nanna's & Grandad's were there. Then a quick change into a mad duck costume, which was so fluffy, I doubt anyone could recognise any of us. Then a break and a well earned drink, before dressing up as a lion, and lastly an angel. Well, by the time we all went on stage to take a bow & the applause from the audience I felt really great, it had been a very long day but it had been such fantastic fun, Annalise & me will definitely be doing it again, hopefully. |

Fearless Flyers |
Still at school, and still having a good time. These half days are definitely better, it gives me a real break from Alf & Mummy, which I'm sure she also appreciates. Our time has been otherwise largely uneventful, except for a daring act of bravery, by both our teddies. We persuaded them to go on a parachute jump, all in a good cause of course. I don't think they really knew what they were letting themselves in for, as they volunteered rather too willingly. When they saw the height they were going to jump from, I could definitely feel Alf's teddy trembling in his hand, although he didn't make a sound.... true bravery, suffering in silence! The worst bit for them must have been standing around waiting for their turn, seeing exactly what awaited them, but unable to pull out for fear of humiliation in front of their bear friends. So their turn came, they were winched high into the air, a momentary freefall and to both our relief their parachutes opened and they floated gently down, or nearly into the next field in my teddies case. They were both so relieved to be down again, they just lay there, unable to move! |

Educating Edie |
Its official, I'm now a school girl with a whole week of education already swirling round in my head. In truth, its only been a couple of hours a day, I go for half a day next week, and the whole day after Christmas. Is it hard work..... NO. Does it mean I'm a child genius...... maybe, but probably no again as its just like being at playgroup or nursery, but with more people in a room at one time. I think I've got 24 of my friends in my class, and our teacher is a lovely lady called Miss Carter. It must be very difficult learning everyone's names, luckily we've all got name badges to make it a bit easier. I'm sure however that I'll find a way to make an impression soon enough, so she won't need a badge to remember me! Its nice to see all my friends every day, and speaking to Annalise at ballet, she's having a good time too, so I'm pleased. As for Alf, he's getting into all my old things, Mother & Toddler & Jumping Jacks, where he has definitely taken up where I left off, helped by some additional stunt lessons, I'm sure he'll come on a treat! Daddy has been a busy boy building a new gate for the back garden, so we've been playing with 'the girls' in the close. My little gang of older girl friends has just doubled in size, with Alf the token male (just so they can mother him!). We've had great fun, making milk and fruit 'smoothie' drinks which I didn't like but Alf drunk nearly all of it, and playing in Daddy's car (I think the current record is 7 of us in it). Well I'd better get some rest, as I've got a whole 3½ hours at school tomorrow & I'd hate to fall asleep in the middle. |

Beach Babes |
Finally, Summer arrives & just before I go to school. At least I got to spend my last few days of freedom playing around outside, rather than another indoor painting session. The highlight of this sun drenched week was a trip to the beach and much fun on the sand & in the sea. Me & Alf found a new friend for the day, Brook (although when I first tried to tell Dad he thought I'd broken something! Do you think I'm clumsy or something?). Dad made his usual endless supply of sandcastles & tunnels for us to smash down, and one was I have to admit rather good and such a shame to jump on, but jump on we all did. Alf had a great time as well playing with Brook, and playing lots of football, which he really loves. I can't see the attraction myself, but I know Grandma watches it all the time, so it obviously can be a girl thing as well. Next time be ready for the full, un-edited truth of the experiences of a 4 year old in a village school, tremendous or torture, find out next time. |

The Beginning of the End, or the End of the Beginning? |
We have just about dried off from our soaking at the campsite, although our tent still seems to be muddy & wet, as yes again its been raining. Well, the curtain has come down on my care free pre-school life, as I went to nursery for the last time this week. It was a bit sad, but I hope my cakes & hand-made cards made everyone a little happier. I have promised to pop in and see them, as Alf will still be there, and so will poor old Megan (only another year to go girl!). I made sure I got a snap of the nursery crew, using a handy self-timer setting on my camera, which everyone posed very nicely for. As an end of era treat the Alf beast & me went to the zoo with Nanna & Grandad, and what an amazing number of animals we saw. My favourites were the Giraffe's, especially Sammy the baby, who was still as tall as Mummy. Alf liked the goats, and they liked him (judging by the way they kept sniffing at his pockets for food), were they looking to eat Alf, or don't they eat children? Mummy then disappeared for 2 days (more skiing! - when do I get a go?). Not a problem though as we had Daddy all to ourselves for a day, and then Grandma & Grandad Grumps, who is still spending all his time trying to catch fish and things from the sea. I still don't understand this, as there is always lots of fish in Tesco when we go with Mummy, maybe there is a shortage in Lowestoft. As a grand finale (note the posh words, wow they will be amazed at school - I wonder if anyone else in my class has a website!), we went swimming in my favourite Bungay pool. Alf was on top form, shrieking his head off, and going down the slide as much as me, a definite record. Well, I'd better get some sleep now as I don't know what time this school thing starts in the mornings, but if its early I'll need to get some practice in. |

Happy Campers |
As the middle of Summer is supposed to be the best time to sleep under canvas in the great outdoors, so it was that Alf & I gave up our lovely beds for our sleeping bags. While we didn't sleep too badly, more through sheer exhaustion that comfort, it was hardly Summer weather, with yet more rain & thunder storms. All of this was largely irrelevant as it became clear that our fellow campers were our friends - Annalise, Harvey, Jo & Louis (and their Mums & Dads of course). It was a return to an earlier camp for Alf & me, so we knew the lie of the land (especially as our tent was very close to where it was last time). Some things time does make more blurred, and unfortunately this one was just how cold the water in the swimming pool was... Alf was shivering & I'm sure I was bright blue by the time I got out!.... fun all the same. As I'm learning this funny phrases at the moment, I'll throw another one at you.... 'every cloud has a sliver lining'. A clever reference not only to the weather, but to the old airbed that Dad had to replace which made the most fab group trampoline (we had so much fun it was unbelievable). We had our breakfast, dinner & tea outside, ran around until our legs were about to drop off & generally had a great time in the woods, as you can see. Another phrase.... there is always a sting in the tail.... again a clever reference to Alf's recent wasp incident, and the fact that it rained on the day were had to pack everything away & drive home, we were soaked and the tent is still drying out in the garage. We all had a lovely time and were pretty well behaved so hopefully we'll do it again next year, if not sooner. |

Friends Re-United |
No, no, not the find your lost school friends website, I know where all of my soon to be school friends live... right here in the village. It was the meeting of the cousins, the first time since our youngest crew member celebrated their 1st birthday way back in January. It must have been a long time ago as I've been to France twice since then & she's now running about everywhere & then she couldn't even walk. The reason for the great gathering, Nanna's birthday, although I won't embarrass her and reveal her age, all I'll say, older than Grumps, but younger than Grandad. After the days of rain, and the impressive thunder & lightning, which me & Alf really like watching, it was a relief to see some sun for Nanna's picnic. We went to this water garden place that I've been to before & spent the whole afternoon running around playing hide & seek. On such a hot day we had more than earned our ice creams, that were being as much worn as eaten! Cousin Sophie stayed over, and Alf slept in my room, which made it fun to have someone to play with early in the morning. Things were going so well at the local park until poor Alf was stung by a wasp, not once but twice! Scream, I've never heard a noise so loud, it really must hurt. His hand swelled right up and it looked very nasty. Me, I escaped but now am frightened every time one comes near me.... I'll adopt a kill 1st, think about it later approach to wasps from now on. Alf seems to have recovered, and has been up to some top mischief, resulting in him spending nearly as much time in his bedroom, as punishment, than out of it.... I'm so proud of my young understudy!. |

A Couple of Yorkshire Puddings |
No, I'm not been rude about our friends Jason & Louise who we went to visit, just a clever reference to where we were & what we ate.... this lovely homemade chocolate cake. Mind you I am a bit surprised we made it there at all, not due to Dad's crazy driving, just that it was so hot, I thought we would be cooked before we got there. But make it there we did, and a fun time we had. First to a big house & park, with lovely ice-creams and lots of running about. Then to a curry house in Sheffield for tea. I was a good girl and sat still all the time & ate my tea (well those big crisps, bread & rice actually). Alf on the other hand was a bit of a nightmare, refusing to sit still and walking around everywhere. In the end Mum & Dad had to take it in turns to eat their tea, while the other pushed Alf around the streets in his pushchair.... naughty boy. After a lovely sleep in a Winnie the Pooh bed, a trip to a ski slope, and not just any old ski slope, not like the one that Mummy goes to every week, no this was indoors, and was covered in real snow! How mad it was, I would have walked around in nothing but my pants if I could have, it was that warm, then through some doors, up some stairs and wow, people in ski jackets skiing on real snow.... what a crazy world. Finally, a bit of shopping, but fortunately not for me. I spied a great looking adventure playground and spent my time climbing, sliding & exploring.... much better than looking at things in shops. All too soon it was back in the car for another long distance grilling, and a well earned rest. Jason & Louise are great, and I hope we'll see them again soon (I just hope they can get that chocolate cake out of their carpet!..... Alf says he's really sorry. |

Planes Aplenty |
An quiet & unremarkable week, ended VERY loudly, with a trip to Lowestoft to see the planes. We normally go on the beach and there are a few other people, this time it was packed (both on the beach & in the sea), I've never seen it so packed. Luckily there was still enough room for us to put up our tent, and run in & out of the sea. Alf & me didn't go in too far as it was still very cold. Cousin Sophie was there with her Mum & Dad, being her usual quiet and restrained self (one day you'll just cut loose & go crazy, we're sure of it, just look at all the tips for mischief & mayhem me & Alf have shown you)! So to the planes, all sort of shapes, colours & noises. We really liked the red ones with the blue red & white smoke coming out of the back (which we hope it was supposed to). The brave people standing on the top of the plane looked pretty crazy, remind me to look into the minimum age allowed as I quite fancy a try. We understand planes are loud, we have after all been on them, but there is loud & there is LOUD. This one, almost the smallest one made the most noise of all (we both had to hide our heads & ears as we thought they would explode). At least this year he didn't take the plane for a swim, which I'm sure you are not meant to do. The fun was finished off with a lovely trip to see Grandma & Grumps (and Grandma's friend from school), I do hope I'm still seeing my school friends when I'm older. We had a great time in the garden pretending to be baby birds, planes & helicopters (basically running around, flapping your arms, then falling over)..... endless amusement. |

Not so Bad After All |
At least that's one load off my mind, everyone else is going to school, so I won't be Edie no-mates. I do however feel sorry for Megan as she will not be going to school until next year, so won't be in my class. I'm sure though we'll see loads of each other, so it will not be so bad. The reason I know all this, well Megs & i had a little chat on the beach the other day. We had a great time Alf & me, splashing in the sea (far too cold for a swim) and playing ball with Mum and Megs Mum & Dad. Our Daddy was too ill to come (he really did look a sick boy), and something that the doctor had given him for his bad back.... I bet he was pleased to get help like that! We also had a fish and chip picnic at the local park with Annalise & Harvey, which was good fun. Sorry Dad for losing interest in the game of rounders, and making you chase all the big hits (although it was naughty of Mummy & Debbie to hit it so far, when it was clear the rest of your team had given up... shame on them!) Had Stephen round to play today as his Mummy was not well, is it catching?. At least the weather is at last a bit warmer, so we had the paddling pool out & got really soaked. The only problem is that its too hot to sleep. See even at our age, we are never happy with the weather.... bring on the snow. |

The End of an Era |
Things really are changing. It seems that my little world is moving on. I went to playschool for the last time recently, not because I'd been so naughty they didn't want me back, but because I'm going to real school soon (although I hope its not all work & no play). It was nice that Alf & Mummy came along, so I could show them all the singing & dancing that I knew. I'm glad the gang got together for a group photo (fond memories to look back on). As well as playgroup, its goodbye to Jumping Jacks, losing one of its oldest, and definitely fastest members. I really will miss the climbing frames and running about under the parachute. I'm sure that Alf, who I have been secretly training on our home gym, will be more than able to carry on the Wright presence, for a few more years. Gulp, do I sense a trend, Playgroup, Jumping Jacks, does that mean that nursery is next?. If so that will be a toughie, not seeing Katie, Brenda, & Margaret again, as it has been such a great place. Well, at least my friends will be coming with me, or at least I hope they will. This school thing has got a lot to live up to, as my life at the moment is pretty good. More reflecting required I think, just to convince myself that I'm not going to be Edie no mates! |

In Reflective Mood |
For once, me & Alf have welcomed the 1st normal week in ages, and the chance to re-charge & think about all the fun we've been having. I know the thought of us thinking may come as a bit of a shock to some, given that we are a couple of all-action kids!, but we, or at least I, do - & here is the proof. I might think, but I'm not always thoughtful - sorry that you missed swimming Alf, but Playschool just isn't Playschool without him (Mummy's fault for forgetting him!). The only other thing worth mentioning is that we now have this new machine in the kitchen that you put all the dirty cups, plates & dishes in and hey-presto they come out all lovely & clean. Does that mean that Daddy doesn't have to wash up any more? If so, I'd have thought he'd be the excited one, but its Mummy (who hardly ever goes near the sink) that seems most pleased. I saw that Nanna & Grandad have just got one, and I'm sure I heard that Grandma would like one. Hang on, haven't we all just been to see Uncle Ben & Catherine, who had one (is Ben a secret salesman?) As we rarely rest for long, I'm sure next time there will be lots more to tell. |

Camp Site Capers |
Whew, what a couple of busy bees we've been (no, we haven't turned into a bee, its just a saying, as bees are supposedly very busy!) Fresh from my birthday celebrations, into a double party day with my friends Stephen & Jo, who are both 4 like me. First a return trip to the Playbarn (do they do season tickets?), and much climbing and running around by both of us. Alfie even managed to wrestle Harvey to the ground on one occasion (brave or foolish? - I'm unsure, although Alf was un-phased at his feat. Then on to Jo's house and a fab bouncy castle in his garden. We all had such fun bouncing around, with Alf being thrown up in the air every time someone bounced near him. We were both absolutely shattered after this exercise-a-thon. What makes this even more of a physical feat (particularly for me) is that I had spent the previous two nights sleeping in a field. No not the ultimate bad-girl punishment, we were camping with Uncle Jason, Auntie Helen, Cousin Sophie (who is now walking - go girl) & Nanna & Grandad (who brought all the luxuries of their caravan). So as you can guess we spent all the time running around, kicking & throwing balls, and generally minxing (although I don't know if Sophie knows what the word mischief means (I'll have a quiet word, as being so well behaved is just not the done thing amongst the under 5's). you would have thought that we'd sleep like logs (another saying my friends), and I did. However it seems like brother Alf decided that night time was an extended playtime& that sleep was for wimps! So little sleep did Mummy claim that she had (Daddy was at home as his back was really hurting), that Alf was sent home to bed, with Daddy, the 2nd night, and everyone slept really well, including Alf! All that fresh air and exercise has still left me running on empty, so that'll have to be all |

Week Long Party |
Wow, what a return from holiday, my feet had hardly toughed the ground when it was time to celebrate, and it seems I've only just stopped. For once, a real reason for this excess, MY BIRTHDAY, I'm now a whole 4 years old. Everyone has been to see me, or came to my party, and I have got so many lovely things - thank you to everyone for the great presents. I will thank you all properly, promise. So I saw Nanna & Grandad, Grandma & Grumps, all at my house. They all loved the playhouse, which is mine & Alfie's 2nd home. Come on Dad, get the carpet sorted out - a bare wood floor just will not do anymore. I'll even compromise, for your, and Alfie's sake - it doesn't have to be pink! Then all my friends came to see me at the Playbarn for a mad party. There was really not time to eat, too much running & chasing to do. Its really tricky to blow out 4 candles, how would I ever manage it if I was as old as Mummy & Daddy, but they went out in the end! Alf had a great time with Harvey, and seemed to be making more of an even match with the wrestling.... our practice sessions must be paying off. My friend Stephen had a lovely time on his holiday and was really excited, as it was going to be his birthday very soon. We are going to school together in September, whenever that is, and Mummy has gone to see the school. I'm not really sure why, I thought she knew where it was, oh well, at least we shouldn't get lost on our way there on the 1st day. |

We're Back from the Mountains |
I know, I know, I didn't even let you know that we were going to be away. With so much going on right up until we went on holiday, I clean forgot to tell you. We went to see Uncle Ben & Auntie Catherine in their house in the mountains. The only difference to last time was that there was hardly any snow (but then even I know that it is Summertime now, and you don't have snow in Summer... or so I thought!) & Nanna & Grandad came with us. I really enjoyed the plane ride, but poor Alf screamed all the way down (he said his ears hurt him really badly). What a time we both had, running around, inside & out the house, walking in the hills, splashing in the streams (with water that was sooo cold) & persuading Nanna & Grandad to give us lots of sweets. We did so much that we are still recovering, and there is just too much to go thorough in one go, so I'll give you more juicy details next time. In the meantime just look at this lovely lake that we walked to, playing snowballs all the way up the path from the car park - wonderful, until you got some snow down your back. |

The Outdoor Life |
Since I last reported, I hardly feel that we've been inside, me and Alf have spent so much time in our new playhouse, and the fast improving garden. It seems that more & more toys have moved from the house to the garden, but no matter, there is still plenty of room inside, for everyone who comes to visits. Visitors, we've had everyone over to look, Stephen (again & again), Annalise & Harvey & Jo & Louis. We've been boring everyone silly at nursery telling them all about it, I bet they'll be glad when we move on to something else..... which I'm sure we will. As hoped things are happening with the fence, and I hope to bring further news of the garden makeover next time. When we heard we were going to see the steam rollers, I couldn't believe it was a whole year ago that I went before. Not only was I excited by that, but Annalise & Harvey were coming too. What fun we all had looking at the big machines, sitting in tractors, sliding the giant slide, but best of all the spinning swings, which as you can see we all had a great time on. We must finish on an apology, for all the other people there who witnessed some rather poor behaviour from both me, but mostly Alf, who were both in our defence rather tired. So if you have a perforated eardrum from our screaming, put in a claim for medical damages..... c/o Edie & Alfie's Mum, Brundall! |

The Little House in the Garden |
Nice to know my spying skills are as sharp as ever. As predicted last week, a little house has appeared (well slowly been built, in truth) in the garden. You'll be pleased to know that I was not entirely a passive observer, if you pay careful attention to the drive, you'll see some interesting streaks of brown wood paint..... but I promise, there was more on the wood! Grandad Grumps, who came over for dinner with Grandma, helped Dad to put up the walls of the house and then sat and watched as Dad did the rest (although he seemed to enjoy it, so why help if you are not asked!). So at last after much waiting, the house was finally ready, and what a house...... Alf and me, quickly followed my my first guests, Stephen & Daniel from over the road have hardly been in our real house since, we have moved some of our toys in, and have great fun making cups of tea & chasing around. I think it is both mine & Alf's house, so I promise to try and be nice to him when he wants to play. The garden really is looking better. We went to the garden centre & picked some pretty plants, as well as some windmills for outside our house. Just the fence, that Daddy chopped some bits out of to fix another fence, to be replaced, along with a new gate, as even I could kick the old one down..... maybe I'll try, then they'd have to get a new one! Hope we have some more sunny days so we can play outside, and maybe one day I'll sleep in the playhouse, now that would be exciting.... I'll have to ask. |

Fairy Maclarey |
Things are really looking better. Alf is much better and he's up to his old tricks again (with a little help from big sis of course)! The weather has been lovely and we've been out in the garden more than inside (spreading the sand pit sand far & wide). The garden is definitely looking better, the hedge has been cut (thanks to Grumps, and then Dad straightening it!) & the fence is now as green as the grass - much nicer. To top it all off, we went out with Harvey & Annalise to a big house somewhere (Fel-Brig, or something) and had a great time walking through the woods & down to the lake, as well as a lovely picnic (and ice-cream). Alf had an easy ride on Dads backpack, but me, I had to walk & it was miles. At the end I expected to see my legs worn down to the knees, but fortunately they were still there. Finally, I've spied some plans for a little house in the garden. My sources don't reveal who will be living there, but as soon as I know you will. Could it be Little Red Riding Hood, 3 bears, or maybe even some dwarves, mysterious indeed. |

Looking Cool for School |
Will Alf ever be well again? Just as he seems to be recovering, a relapse... poor chap. He doesn't have anything to report, as life as a boiling hot, semi-lifeless lump, is by his own admission really boring. Thanks to Grandma for the email, apologies for the date on last weeks diary note being wrong. How right you were, if it really was July now, where are all our birthday presents? All is back to normal, and its only May (although this week the weather has been so miserable, it was much nicer in Winter). I thought Spring was supposed to be warmer (hope you are impressed with the Seasons, I learned that at Nursery. Anyway, the only real thing of interest was a dressing up game with a difference, called getting ready for school. Now as well as the seasons I know a bit about the months, so know that September (when I start school) does not come after May, so getting dressed up now was a bit confusing, but I thought best to go along with Mum's game idea. As you can see, I think I look rather smart myself. I hope I've got enough outfits as they are bound to get a little messy! I'm now biking to the shops with Daddy (and Alf) all the time now as well as going really fast around the close. I must look where I'm going as I ran into a fence and fell off the other day, and still have the plaster to prove it ..... ouch! |

Not So Much Fun With Just One |
I now know where the 'green fingers' gardening thing comes from... painting fences. I did help Dad with the green paint and I got almost as green as the bit I painted... hands, clothes & boots all splattered with green paint (I do hope it comes off or I will get some funny looks at playgroup & nursery). Just as Dad gets better, (and a bit older, it was his Birthday this week. He's now as old as Mummy, gosh he must really be getting on a bit), so Alf gets sick. Poor chap his tea keeps coming back up all over his clothes & his bed... yuk! It was a shame that he was a sick boy as it meant that I had to have all the fun of a trip to Fritton Lake to see cousins Robert & Rowan. We did have some fun, all that running, jumping & climbing (although I think he scared himself a bit with the head-long dive down the slide - even I wouldn't do that!) If that wasn't all, the sick boy also missed Annalise's 4th birthday party, and not just a party, a disco (music, lights, and games). Believe it or not, I won the musical statues games. Yes, that's right I can be still if I want to (well if the prizes are worth it). Hopefully Alf will feel better soon, and I won't get whatever he had, and we get get back to some double trouble! |

Garden Makeover |
Daddy seems better now, he says it was 'Man Flu', an especially nasty illness that strikes only the most fit & health people, but when you get it, you (and everyone else) sure knows about it. He was right (even in his fevered state, grass does come on lorries, I've seen it with my own eyes). It is weird, it comes all rolled up and you just lay it down on the ground & un-roll it. It looks just like a green magic carpet. It is very thirsty stuff as Daddy has been watering it every day. Its good fun for me & Alf as well, as we can run through this rain machine & get soaking wet!!! The garden is getting quite a bit of attention, new grass, new sand for our sand pit (I'm sure that will not stay in for long) and a new table & chairs, just for outside. This has a special big blue umbrella, which we've needed to keep the sun (rather than the rain) off us, when we've had our tea in the garden.... how exciting. We've got some green paint for the fence, which I hope I can have a go with, and Daddy's putting up a new fence soon (as the old one is only being held up by some bits of wood). Things should be really smart (all we need now is a playhouse just like Curly Megs) and things will be perfect. I've just returned from biking to the Brundall shop and back with Mummy (the furthest I've ever been). As I was also out on my bike earlier (stopping at the pub on the way home, of course), I'm a bit tired...........bye. |

We've Got Green Fingers |
Wait.... before you go rushing to your medical books & email me the name of some hideous disease that I may have, we don't really have green fingers, its just another of these weird sayings that make learning this language so difficult. It actually means that we are good gardeners. I suppose it must have something to do with most things in the garden being green.... how imaginative, but incorrect. Each time we've come indoors, our fingers have been black from the soil, so what are we not black fingered gardeners? Whatever, the rights or wrongs of the description, me and Alfie are definitely garden labourers, moving soil from one place to another, whether asked to or not. We have our own spades and will do other light grounds maintenance such as soil sieving, twig & small branch removal, and some very light pruning. All in all, I think we can be proud at our achievements in clearing the whole of the bottom & side of the garden Ok, Ok, so Mum & Dad did most of the work, but you shouldn't underestimate the amount of soil we chucked over the garden fence! So we now have this big brown, flat patch of ground with nothing on it that looks really silly, but Dad tells us will have grass on it soon, but we can't see any growing (unless out little eyes are not working properly). Now we learn that the grass is coming on a lorry!... and we're really confused as everyone knows what grass doesn't grow on lorries!!!!! Is this a very late April Fool? I'm going to ask my friend Harry at playschool if he can explain how grass can come on a lorry, as he knows about this things (he lives in the country, almost in Strumpshaw!). Poor Daddy's been a sick boy, (hope it wasn't something we gave him). He's had a terrible cough and has felt ill for days, and if we're honest we haven't been as good as we could have been, especially when he wanted to go to bed early, we were a bit naughty.......... we are both sorry, and will now go to be quietly. |

Chocolate, Chocolate Everywhere |
Having both recovered from our action packed fun time last week, we are
now both feeling a bit stuffed with chocolate. The reason.... Easter with lots & lots
of chocolate eggs, we didn't know which one to eat 1st. Before all of that though we saw our friend Amanda, but not at her normal house, with her smallish dog, but another house with a HUGE dog that kept trying to lick, or eat me.... I was never sure so didn't let it get too close! Berty, a rather cute name for a dog that I'm sure would have eaten Alf as a light snack, given a chance. The other thing, the size of the house, it matched the dog, it was MASSIVE. Poor Alf got out of puff just running from the front door to the TV! It was really posh as even Berty had his own shower.... whatever next? We had a nice time, although poor Alf fell on his head & still has an impressive bruise to show for his spill. So to the Easter eggs. Not a complete surprise as Daddy had given me a sneaky glimpse last week, but nevertheless we were not expecting to have so many, and to find that the Easter bunny had left them lying around the garden for us to find... what a clever thing, and in mine & Alf's favourite colours as well. Well we've had another egg feast so are feeling a bit full & a bit sleepy, so until next time.............l |

Double Helping of Fun |
It seems that outdoor fun-time is here again. Not only is it light when we
leave nursery, allowing one last run around outside before tea, but as Daddy promised
Pettit's was open again. This time Megan was my partner in crime, with Mr Mobile Alfie,
making up the terrible trio (although if I'm honest we were pretty well behaved). It was
good to have a run about, and Alfie said it was the best time he'd had for ages. He's
already looking forward to going again. Only partially recovered from that, it was straight into another day of fun at the farm, this time with Annalise & Jo. I'd not been to this place before, but there was lots to do, climbing & sliding, but also lots of animals everywhere. Rabbits, pigs, ducks, owls, goats.....the list goes on. Which reminds me, at Pettits Alf & me were nearly eaten by the hungry goats (and we'd gone to take them food in a bag, and they obviously thought that we were lunch).... we only just got out alive! So, forgive me, I'm feeling more than a little tired, so I'm off for a well deserved lie down. |
28/03/2004 |
The Great Escape |
It seems that Alf is determined to grab the headlines, with ever more
daring behaviour. First the swimming, now the climbing, which I have to confess, a partial
responsibility for. We'd just been playing about in his bedroom, throwing my toys into his cot. I was then climbing in to get them back. The next day I hear that he's obviously been watching me & has climbed out himself, as he was happy to do for the camera.... what a little tinker! In other news, it was lovely to see Grandma & Grumps again, and we had a visit to the ski club. I saw Daddy ski for the 1st time (on holiday I only saw him leave the shalet with his skis, but never skiing), usually it is just Mummy. Both Mum & Dad are really good, and I can't wait to be bigger so I can have a go. As Mummy want to teach other people how to ski, maybe I can be one of her class. Oh, was that a thump I heard.... I'd better see if that was Alf trying to make another break for freedom.... |
21/03/2004 |
Swim Baby, Swim |
Some breaking news from Alf, he tells me that he is now
able to paddle about, without being limpet-boy (permanently attached to Mum or Dad). He,
like me, has benefited from the proper buoyancy equipment, and now goes solo in the pool.
I'm glad as well as hopefully it will mean we'll go more often - especially now I've got
my turbo-power armbands, for maximum speed over that short distance between the shallow
end, and the bottom of the slide. In other news, it does seem like Nanna & Grandad's dog Sam is not about anymore, as I went round and she wasn't there. Mum tried to tell me she'd gone to heaven ,but I don't know where that is (I'll have a look on the map, perhaps its near Norwich). Grandad Grumps came round and chopped away at the hedge in the garden with a big saw, and a big pair of things like Mummy cuts Daddy's hair with. He was brave as he climbed up this very tall ladder to reach the top. At the end there were loads of branches, which I helped Daddy put in the car & take to the dump. After Grumps had gone I had a look out of my bedroom window, and he's missed some bits at the back, and its not very straight - or am I just being a bit picky my toddler chums, have any of you ad a go? It was nice for Alf & me to see our cousin Sophie the other day, and to see her standing up (but not quite as free-roaming & mischievous as Alfie, but soon I guess). We had some nice chips at the beach, but it was so windy when we went for a walk, at times you could hardly stand up. I'm surprised that the wonky fence in my garden survived. Well that's me done for another week, wind blown & tired..... bye |

To the Theatre.....how lovely, darling! |
Yes, I know you can't believe it... Edie goes to the
theatre. Wow, what a time I had, there were people singing & dancing on this high up,
stage, place. Best of all, I could dance and sing along too, in front of my very own comfy
seat. I did get a bit carried away at one point and nearly took the ladies head off in
front, but she moved & it was alright after that. All this and my friends Jo &
Annalise were there (although me & Annalise did most of Jo's dancing for him) as he
didn't venture far from his Mummy..... bless. Alf had seemed to recover from the stabbing incident, but has not quite been himself.... perhaps he is suffering from post traumatic stress disorder! Its never to young to understand these useful ailments, as know the symptoms, fake the illness.... very handy indeed for getting Mum or Dad's attention. I'll have to pass Alf my book on Toddler Ailment Faking, as he's starting to make much more sense (to me at least).... still a bit quick, even for me, but slow it down a bit & its easier to understand. He's picking up the pace with his running now, making chasing games much more fun. He's still got to learn hide-and-seek though, as he doesn't stay still long enough for me to get through the door, before he's after me... cheat. Saw Nanna & Grandad the other day, but they seemed sad, something about Sam not being about any more. I didn't understand, but I'll ask Mum to explain, rather than make them feel bad (if the two things are connected). Apologies chums, I thought you'd had a fuller offering of skiing pics, but I see, due to an oversight on my part, that you had only been teased with a few early gems. I'll get to work on these straight away for your future enjoyment... sorry.. |

Savage Stabbing |
Now wouldn't you think that young toddlers would be
safe from random assault? We accept that our brothers or sisters do this, as we do it to
them.... only fair. But when this comes from an adult, and especially one you don't know,
then this is really out of order..... especially when poor old Alf was the victim. What was the heinous crime I hear you cry, well he tells me that he was taken from nursery (in a happy mood) to the doctors, normally not such a bad thing, as in my experience they are mostly nice people. However on this occasion he was stabbed in the leg, without any warning. Scream, he tells me that he nearly brought the roof down... good for you. He kept up this impressive show of displeasure for a full 10 minutes, until his throat was too sore to continue - just like in this picture. I'm really getting into my cooking, and as well as shortbread, which Annalise really liked last week, I've added chocolate buns to my menu. Its such fun as not only can you eat things at the end, but it tastes good as you are making it... what a bonus. Things ended somewhat better for us all as we went swimming. Now I know why my recent progress has been slow... I still had baby armband on, which didn't keep me afloat properly. Now with the right equipment, I simply sail along - easy! So much so that I now go down the slide and out the other end all by myself. Good job really as Mum & Dad can never catch me. I'm already half way up the steps for the next go, by the time they get to the bottom. |

All Confused |
Now today is a funny day, I don't remember seeing a
29th February before. I'm sure there are only supposed to be 28 days. Has someone got the
date wrong or something? Whatever, if someone wants to give us an extra day to have fun,
who are we to say no. Now that me & Alfie know what real snow is like, this week's efforts have seem very tame by comparison - it just doesn't last! It snows, it melts, it snows, it melts - we get excited, I get my ski boots on.... and its gone again... very frustrating. The only good thing to come out of it was a snowball fight with Annalise & her Dad, after they'd been over for tea. For once we both tried very hard to be good, and more or less got away with it. We looked at loads of lovely ski pictures & I showed Annalise my Winnie the Poo games on the pc while Alf & Harvey chased each other downstairs. With my snowball aim now good, I had further opportunity to practice with Grumps, with us 2 against Daddy. I didn't quite manage to get him, but it got hit by some spray that went down by back...chilly! It must have been a special day for birds in groups. First about 50 swans in a field, then hundreds of noisy birds in a tree, who all flew away when we got near. Daddy was a bit upset, and I think it was something I did (unusual I know). We were late for ballet & in trying to help with the car park ticket, I think I put it the wrong way up as daddy had something stuck to his car when we got back, which made him very unhappy. I haven't asked him about it again.....just in case. I hope its nothing too bad, I'll keep you posted. I hope things warm up a bit this week, both the temperature & socially, as I am now ready for the next Edie challenge. |

A Couple of Sad Toddlers |
Me and Alf are feeling sad.... the holiday really is
all over & we don't know when we'll see the snow again. Hope you liked the pictures & promise there will be more to follow, that will impress & amaze! (Over promise, under deliver - we'll see). Anyway, what haven't I told you.... oh yes, Annalise & her trapped head! Another day, another cable car ride (we could have happily sat on it all day & gone round & round). This time just me, Annalise & Daddy. The cable car stops & we all try & get out, although Annalise is not fast enough (or the cable car was just faster!). The doors shut and she is trapped half in / half out of the door with her head squashed between them! Fortunately not for long, but it must have hurt as she had a red mark down her face for a while. I of course showed great concern & compassion, and was really nice to her for at least 20 minutes.... hey, what are friends for. We've laughed about it since, but it could have been nasty. Typical, we come home & Ben says there has been lots more snow, but some of it was orange... how weird is that. Alf & me had lots of fun with some new friends, mine was Ella (like Nanna & Grandad's dog) & Alfie had another Alfie to play with (which was confusing when they were being called). We went for a treasure hunt to the river & saw lots of ducks & swans which ate all our bread. Alf really enjoyed feeding them and managed to keep all his fingers away from the hungry swans... wise move! Had a nice time having dinner at Stephen's house, well everybody else ate, I watched. I'm still puzzled at his impromptu mid afternoon strip tease a posing on the window sill. Perhaps he's hoping to be a male glamour model? |
15/02/2004 |
We're Back from our Skiing Adventure! |
Wow....what a time we've had..........where do we
start? I thought we were going somewhere cold. Yes there was lots of snow but it was really warm.... blue skies & sun, not at all what we expected. I thought France was only just over the sea, but it took ages & ages to get there... I thought the journey would never end. It was all worth it as we had a fab time, sledging on these blow up circles that Dad had bought. One for me & another for Annalise, they were sooo fast we had to have someone catch up at the bottom of the hill! Ben & Catherine's house is lovely, with lots of great films to watch on telly (hopefully Dad will buy Monsters Inc - although I've now already watched it 5 times!). Having taken all my own ski gear I had to have a go, and if I say so myself, not a bad effort for a youngster. when I get the video sorted you'll see that not only can I go fast & straight, but I can turn as well.... impressive. Poor old Alfie wasn't expecting the sun & hadn't quite got used to his sunglasses, so was forever getting blinded and not always a happy chappie. Fortunately Mummy was able to borrow a pushchair, which he was much happier in (until he got stuck in the turnstile for the cablecar). That reminds me of another story I need to tell..... oh there is just so much to let you all know about. We had a welcome break from Mummy & Daddy in the afternoon, courtesy of our own childminder (Annalise's dad) who hurt his leg skiing with Daddy, who I hope had nothing to do with it. So they skied while Alfie slept & we watched films.... holiday bliss all round! |

Melt Down |
Well, that snow didn't last long. Luck I did take my
pictures when I did as it was gone soon afterwards. I can hardly think I'm so excited about my holiday.... now what have we been up to? A rare treat, we all went swimming (well, as you know its more sliding than swimming - again the case this time), but with the added pressure of having to show Alfie all the high speed sliding moves as he went down with Daddy. He seems to be a lot more confident in the pool since last time - is he having some secret lessons I don't know about, I'll have to interrogate! After my recent stint of washing up at Grandma's, I've now extended my domestic repertoire to include cooking. the shortbread cakes were delicious, if I say so myself, and didn't last long before being gobbled up. I've been helping to pack up the things for the holiday, making sure my skis & boots go in - so only days to go now. Still lots of snow & sunny, so we might get our suntans started. I'll hopefully have some great snaps of my holiday for you next time, as I'm taking my instant camera. Don't miss us too much chums - back soon.. |

The Snow Comes to Us! |
After last weeks TV ski-fest, we had a real surprise,
some real snow of our own....fantastic! It wasn't all fun & games, poor Daddy got stuck at work and didn't get home until long after Alfie & me had gone to bed. However the next day was excellent fun, Stephen & me sliding about at high speed on this blow up tyre thing that Daddy pulled....fantastic fun. Alfie missed out as he fell asleep... unbelievable. I tried on my new ski boots & real skis, and found it a bit more slippery on snow, than the front room carpet! We also made a snowman (which was nearly as tall as me... huge)! Only a week to go now before we go to France, Annalise is as excited as me, we could hardly concentrate on our ballet. |
25/01/2004 | Serious Skiing |
Skiing, skiing everywhere.... on the TV & in my
house, it must be getting really close to my holiday now! I've got my own real ski boots (a bit disappointed they are not pink, but they've got some yellow & red bits on, so they are a bit colourful). Add to that my own skis as well (borrowed though, before you are thinking I'm really flash). Unlike some, namely Dad, who has also now got his own skis, just like Mum. If Alfie has my old ones, everyone in the house has their own skis... mad! The week went past in a whirlwind, and I really don't remember anything of real interest, so I won't bore you with drivel (that's DRIVEL, not dribble, like the river that runs down Alfie's chin most of the time. Nanna & Grandad's dogs are less messy! We both had a good couple weekend, my ballet is coming on treat & I went swimming (or should that be sliding) with Mummy. Alf went out with Daddy to the ski shop, and walk by the river. Then a day with Grandma & Grumps which was great fun. However as they say, and I'm learning already, there is no such thing as a free lunch. Alfie thought it would be great fun to be a human Jack-in-the-box, which I hope I've managed to snap on my new wizzy camera. Again, another week, and another dose of Play-school tomorrow with my friend Stephen, so I must get some beauty sleep, ready for another week, taking us even nearer to the skiing holiday - can you tell I'm a little bit excited?. |
18/01/2004 | Getting Geared up for Skiing |
The skiing trip must be getting close now, as not only
has it been cold here, but we are buying skiing things... how exciting. I've got a new pair of boots for the holiday.... can you guess what colour they are....you're right, they're pink, with lovely fur inside to keep my toes all warm. I keep seeing all these people skiing on the TV and I really want to have a go. I think, if I overheard Dad the other night, say that he'd bought me some real ski boots, from somewhere called e-Bay. I can't remember seeing a shop called that, and its definitely not the one down the road... strange eh! It was off to the ski club today, and a great time as the whole gang of Annalise & Jo was there. What fun we had both in there & on our walk to feed the ducks & swans. Alfie, Harvey & Louis also had a good time together. Harvey was an impressive walker, covering a great distance, albeit at a snails pace... good for you. I don't know how Annalise expects the poor ducks to eat the half slices of bread she throws at them, but it is entertaining to see them try! Alfie is getting pretty good on my trampoline now, and almost gets airborne. As you would expect I've been adding new levels of complexity & danger to my bouncing, which now includes another ski holiday item, a big blow up donut that you sit it and slide along on..... its is going to be fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Play-school tomorrow with my friend Stephen, so I must get some beauty sleep, ready for another punishing week. |
11/01/2004 | Ballerina Girl |
New year, new hobby - ballet, can you believe it? I'm
sure you can, Edie that gentile, graceful girl that you know & love! Well, at the moment its more general dancing and singling than real ballet, but I'm getting all my own gear soon, as I'm the only one in a track-suit & I look out of place. What makes it all the better is that Annalise is there and we have a great time together. People being poorly seems to be catching, 1st Dad & his bad head, now Nanna & her bad back! We went to see her & she could hardly move. I hope she's better soon . Poor Grandad was having to do everything..... he'll be worn out! Last time I saw Grandma & Grumps they had bad backs too, and Daddy's is not right, am I destined to be a young cripple as well????? I'm off to play with my latest toy, another camera. This one is a bit special though as I can plug it into my secret laptop & hey presto instant photos. Hopefully I'll be able to keep you even more up to date with happenings in Edie & Alfie's world. |
04/01/2004 | Happy All Round |
Another year goes by, and each more quickly than the
last. Happy New Year to all my toddler chums. I'll be going to school this year &
Alfie will be 2, how scary is that! Things have started off well, Alf is no longer with the pox, and many of his scabs have disappeared, so I feel better & so does he. We went to see cousin Rowan for her 1st birthday, and of course her big brother Robert, who it was great to see. No repeat of the broken nose I got last time, I'm pleased to say, although poor Dad was not very well and had to sleep alone in the caravan outside - so there is always something. Rowan was doing her best to walk around the furniture with her adventures often only stopped by Alfie giving her lovely long hair a tug - sheer jealousy, at his own thin & wispy mop! Sophie was her usual restrained self, but was not to be outdone with crawling & standing displays of her own - good on you girl! Baby Annabell was well behaved & slept the whole journey, unlike us who were entertained by my ABC CD on repeatedly. Its a classic - honest.. Oh, there's Annabell wants another bottle, or does she need a nappy change.....does it never stop! |
