28/12/2003 | Its Christmas! |
Wow, Alfie & me must have been good this year as
Santa has brought us loads of things. He must be hungry & thirsty as he ate the mince
pies & drank the wine that we left out. He is also very quiet as neither Alfie or me
heard a thing, despite desperately trying to stay awake to catch a glimpse. It took us ages to open all the lovely things, and just when we thought we'd finished Nanna, Grandad, Grandma & Grumps arrived with more! It was lovely to see everyone, but I'm still puzzled why Grumps went to sleep on the floor after lunch... and snored! - very strange. I've got my lovely baby Annabel, with her very own pram (just like the one Alfie & me used to go in). She is such a hungry girl, I'm always having to feed her a bottle of milk... (are babies all like this?). I also got this fab trampoline which I can bounce really high on. I've already worked out that if I jump off the chair onto it then I go even higher!!! Alfie had a few goes and really liked it as well. Alfie got a lovely wooden garage with these great cars (some of them make noises like real fire-engines & police cars - wow) & a smart wooden farm with some little animals. These are just a few things I can think of, and just a small selection of the many things we got. A big thank you from Alfie & me to everyone who was kind enough to buy us a lovely present. I hope you liked the card we spent ages making & that Santa thought you had been good to, and brought you lots of lovely things to play with. As well as feeling very happy on Christmas day, I was a bit sad as Alfie was covered in the Pox, and was not as happy as he normally is. As I know he caught it from me, I did feel just a bit responsible for his discomfort. I must speak to Annalise to see if she is with lurg yet. Must go... Annabel is thirsty again...... as a young mother its all work, work ,work!. |
21/12/2003 | A Star is Born |
I think I got off lightly, as the pox spots are nearly
all gone now, and I didn't itch too badly.... my friends Megan & Stephen definitely
had it worse. We have a Christmas tree, with lights. It had obviously had enough to drink and was ready to come indoors. Me & Mummy had a lovely time putting lots of shiny, dangly things on the tree & it now looks really pretty.... but it can't compete with the full-on light show over the road.. My pox has hardly dented my social calendar, and it has been a full program of events. First a lovely trip to see Grandma & Grumps, who like us claim to have two cats, but I only ever see one, and then mostly from the back as he is running away from me. Finally a trip to the fun factory with Annalise, Jo, Harvey & Louis. We ran, climbed, jumped & dug for hours. Alfie had a great time and really enjoyed the big climbing frame (although he did bang his head a few times in the hall of mirrors... very confusing for a youngster). I can see Alf & Harvey having a few scraps when we go skiing, but with the current weight disadvantage, I reckon he's going to have to rely on speed & cunning, rather than force.....I'll have to get him in training for the impending contest. Alf was starting to get a bit cocky, thinking he'd escaped the pox, but no. I can exclusively reveal that he IS infected, and the tell-tale blotches are starting to appear. As we've just been to see Annalise & Harvey could they be next........? The one thing the pox has done is take my mind off Christmas, however I can now give this my full attention.. Not long now.... how exciting!!!!!! |
14/12/2003 | The Pox Gets Me |
What a difference a day makes, from the only marks
being the usual assortment of bumps & bruises to being covered in the dreaded pox!
What a state I've been in, itching from head to foot (as I've got spots in my hair &
on my ankles). Fortunately, I've not felt too ill, just wanting to scratch the skin off my
body. All Mum & Dad can do is dab this cold, strange smelling stuff all over me (which
may, or may not, do anything... by this stage I was beyond caring!). Today has been better, itching a lot less with Alfie & me having a great time with Grandma & Grumps (we had fun in a tent, in Grandma's front room! Alfie ate so much I thought he was going to burst. Me I just polietly picked at things as usual, although I must say the chocolate cake that Grandma made was lovely. I'm sure Alf will sleep well tonight as he must hve chased me up stairs about 50 times. We bought a Christmas tree yesterday, and its in the garden having a drink of water in a pot (stange but true, according to Dad anyway!) Hope we get to put it up soon, as the house over the road is covered in bright lights & ours is looking very bare. Alf is worried that he's going to get the Pox, and as we've been up to our usual minxing tricks, he's got a pretty good chance, so the next few days could be interesting.... we'll keep you posted.. |
07/12/2003 | No More Nappies for Me |
Great days indeed my friends, I seem to have finally
rid myself of those night time nappies, and now make the midnight toilet trips all by
myself. I just decided the other day that me & nappies just had to move on, and
despite a couple of very wet beds, progress was swift and now I really seem to have left
all that baby stuff behind. Alf continues with his walking skills (and his climbing is coming along impressively as well). He has been a miserable git this week, continually crying & winging (things that I obviously would never do!). He is having another few teeth come through, which I remember was not very nice, so I am sympathetic (even it it doesn't show). I'm sure he'll be over it soon. Alf saw his first Father Christmas, and got some good presents. Me, I wouldn't go near him (scary man!) and had to send Nanna up in my place - I really must get over this Santa phobia!. It was nice of us to see our cousin Sophie at Nanna & Grandads, and to see her crawling around, and hauling herself up. She did seem a whole lot happier, and hopefully she picked up a few mischievous ideas from Alf (who nearly pulled everything off the side in their front room). Just time to pop in and surprise Grumps with his birthday card (I was half expecting him to be asleep as it was after 8:00pm!.... well it was Saturday so maybe he treated himself to a late night). Another trip to the ski club with Annalise (which reminds me, I'll have to tell you about my dancing classes next week), and with Alfie howling all the way to the ducks (and back), I was pleased to sit down with a lemonade, a packet of crisps & a bit of peace & quiet. |
30/11/2003 | Standing on his own two feet |
Alfie beastie can now get up and walk without needing
something to haul himself up on, and he's getting quicker & stronger all the
time.....I sense my days of absolute domination may well be numbered. He spends his time doing laps of the house and practicing his climbing (having such an agile sister has obviously rubbed off and he can get into some impressive situations (mind you, he's not always able to get out of them again!). Didn't make it 4 pub trips in a row, but never mind as my good friends Jason & Louise from up North came to see me (yes those ones that don't talk proper, like what I do). We had a lovely time playing snakes & ladders, and with most of my other toys, which they seemed to enjoy a much as I did. Alfie went out for his 1st curry (and seemed to like the bread most (just like me). The nice people in the restaurant gave us lots of chocolate, so I must go there again. Today we went to feed the ducks, but there weren't any! Just some funny long boats with people in who were waving big sticks & facing the wrong way round, Daddy said they were row-ing. After a quick drink at the ski club (I really can't wait to try, and I think Jason & Louise should learn as well), we just had time for lunch, some more Snakes & Ladders & it was time for Jason & Louise to go home. My eyes are heavy, and Alfie went to sleep long ago...... night |
23/11/2003 | Pub Regular |
Fortunately I seem to have escaped the lurg and Alf is
much better now. He is walking further & faster than ever, and can almost do a
whole lap of the house, without crashing into someone, or something. Not much to say this week as nursery & playschool were mostly uneventful. Alfie did however show off his walking skills to the nursery staff, who were very impressed. The only highlight, of a rain soaked weekend, was another trip to the pub - my third Sunday in a row. This time everyone was there, and I showed Alfie the big warm fire (although fortunately he didn't get too close). We all had a lovely drink & a bowl of chips - hope we make it 4 in a row next week. The only disappointng thing was that we were supposed to go bowling again (Mummy was obviously looking to try and beat me this time), but there were so many cars we couldn't get to park. Mummy said that everyone was out Christmas shopping...does that mean that Santa will soon be here......... me & Alf had better be good, so off to bed early... night. |
16/11/2003 | Bowled Over |
I've extended my sporting skills to include tenpin
bowling, which is my kind of game... knocking things over & not even having to clear
up the mess! After nearly being frightened to death in a big dark room, with the biggest TV you've ever seen, that was sooo noisy, this was much more to my liking, and I seem to have a natural talent, as I beat Mummy's score. Mind you the balls are very heavy and I did drop one and nearly broke my foot... luckily I had these groovy shoes on that this nice man had given me. I do hope we have another go soon. Alf had a good time trying to crawl down after the ball, and had to be restrained on more than one occasion, but he was just a bit too little to have a go himself.. He's not got much to say this week as he's been packed off to his sick bed again, all dosed up with that lovely medicine. Poor old chap has been trying so hard with his walking and can now walk round corners and even sometimes push open doors & walk through (when I'm not pushing back from the other side!). I tried to catch him on my hidden camera, but he was either too fast, or too wobbly, so as soon as he's a bit better (you really do not want to see all that snot!), I'll have another go at capturing him on film. We had a lovely day with Nanna & Grandad who came to look after us when Mummy & Daddy went skiing on real snow. I am still very confused as there is no snow outside my house, so where was it? I thought I head them say it was indoors, but even I know that snow comes down from the sky, not the ceiling......can anyone help me understand. Speak to again soon, assuming Alfie doesn't pass on the lurg to me. |
09/11/2003 | Aren't we the Clever Ones! |
Another week, another milestone, for both Alf & me.
Firstly, I am surprised my hands have stopped shaking enough to allow me to write this.
The reason, the loudest fireworks ever... and no escape (I thought my ears were going to
explode!). Both curly Megs & me didn't like the loud ones (the pretty colour ones are
OK), but Alfie tells me he watched them all (I'm still waiting for an independent witness
to this.) So to the milestones, Alfie is proud to announce he can now officially walk (as verified by both Nanna's & Grandads). I am rather pleased that I retain the record for the youngest walker by a whole 10 days, but nonetheless a great achievement. My achievement is the result of some dedicated practice, both at home & nursery.... I can now write my own name without any help, something that I still have to concentrate hard on, but is getting easier to read each time (and already nearly as neat as Daddy's writing!). I also managed to talk Dad into taking me into the pub yesterday after a bike ride. We sat by a big warm fire & has a lovely drink & a packet of crisps....I'd highly recommend it to all my toddler chums. Given how easy it was to persuade my Daddy to go to the pub, I'm sure you wouldn't have too much of a problem either. |
02/11/2003 | Witches & Wild Things! |
This is a strange world alright, this week our nursery
suddenly had cobwebs everywhere (they really must get a new cleaner) and these big strange
orange things with funny faces carved into them - Hall-o-ween, or something. This
weirdness continued at Nanna & Grandads when these funny, & rather scary people,
came to the door dressed with black hats & funny face masks. They did though get some
sweets so its something I'll have to try in the future. Out house was looking very normal at this stage, but then this strange disease spread & cobwebs & a pump-kin (as I know know them to be) appeared in the dining room. Our friend curly Megs came round (she really has a soft spot for Alf - don't know why, he's a beast!), with her Mum & Dad. We then made some spiders & things, before the highlight of the afternoon - the witches parade. Alf spent the time trying ever so hard to walk, and he's better than he was last week, but can still only go a few steps before collapsing - I really think another week & he'll have got it. Of course I'm giving him all the help & encouragement I can (in my unique love/hate way). So soon we'll be tearing round the house at high speed - I can't wait! |
26/10/2003 | Another Alfie Party |
Good to know that my secret listening posts continue to
produce valuable intelligence, and what a gem this time.... advance warning of my 2nd
party in a week (so good job I paced myself). So Alf the rug-rat is now 1 year old - who
would of thought he would be able to stick my punishment for that
long! What a good chap to take me to the Playbarn to share his day - pity is was raining otherwise we could have raced the tractors (as he's now mastered by motorbike at home, I'm sure a tractor would be no problem). My house was then invaded by a steady stream of guests, until I'm sure they couldn't be room for anymore! Nanna's, Grandads, Uncles, Aunts & cousins everywhere. Luckily for Alfie he had plenty of people & things to play with (especially after Robert & I had helped him open his presents). There were some lovely things that I'll definitely be having a go with before long. Alfie says a huge thank you to everyone for his lovely things, and sorry he couldn't tell you in person. It was good to see Robert again, and catch up on the gossip. I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with my sibling, and that Robert sometimes has a tough time with his sister. These parents they just don't understand how much we are provoked by these seemingly innocent babies - it would test the patience of a saint, and we always get the blame! We are not perfect, but some of Alfie's knocks & scrapes are down to his walking attempts, which he's getting very close to now, another week & I think Its going to be one crazy house, with another tottering toddler...... Our other cousin, Sophie was her usual quiet & restrained self, happy to sit & watch the world go by. I bet she's just keeping note of all the crazy things people are doing, and will one day be as mad as the rest of us, or she'll be an accountant or tax inspector (something serious like that, so I'd better hide my child allowance in an overseas tax haven now!). It was nice of him to bring over a couple of pictures he'd taken at the wedding, which I thought were particularly flattering, I'll have to have him take more for my portfolio. I was looking forward to Robert sleeping in my room & even helped make a special bed for him. I don't know if it was something I said, or if I smell, but he only lasted a couple of hours, before he fled to his Mum & dad's room. If nothing else I then got a good nights sleep, which I don't think he, or his Dad did, as they looked very tired n the morning. However, he still didn't deserve the unprovoked attack from a hungry swan, who nibbled his hand in the same way I had mine munched some time ago...... that has got to hurt! So both the Alf beast & me are utterly whacked & off for a bit of peace & quiet, now the guests have gone and the house is once again quiet, apart from Floyds pathetic wailing every once in a while...... night all |
19/10/2003 | Alf's 1st Party! |
The sickness has relented, and it seems that
Mummy has escaped the lurg altogether - how unfair! Not a lot to report really, except for a strange gathering one evening after nursery, with many of my friends, their Mums & Dad's. Something to do with pre-school. All that stuck in my mind was how dark it was walking back to the car, nothing at all about my future education. The highlight of the week has to be a party for Alfie, Louis & Harvey (who are, or will soon be 1 year old). Well, I say it was a party for them, really it was taken over by us older ones with the usual mayhem (including the near fractured skull on the bouncy castle. That Stephen sure has got a hard head!). It seems that everyone had a lovely time, eating lots of good things (crisps, biscuits, chocolate etc) & it seems that Alfie is now very keen to let everyone know just how old he is (or will be soon - cos I know your birthday is not until later in the week). I think, having overheard conversations, that there is a family gathering at my house this weekend, so hopefully some high jinks with Robert will be the order of the day & I'll have lots to update you on next week. Be good, or very bad!. |
12/10/2003 | The Revenge of the Plague House |
Just as I thought Alfie was well again & things
could be more normal, they get worse not better. Poor Alf was sick everywhere... in the
car, on the floor inside the house, in his bed...... for once I have to say I felt sorry
for Dad, having to sort it all out by himself. I did try and be on my best behaviour to
help him out, so I hope he remembers this. Not only was Alf ill but he made me sick to, and Daddy.... only Mum seems to have escaped.........so far! So with the sickness hanging heavy in the air it was another week like the last, very boring (apart from my regular after nursery cycling with my chums in the close... Stephen, Elena, Sam & Sascia. I'm very fast on my bike now & Dad has to get on his own bike if he wants to keep up! The only break from the routine was another duck feeding walk with Annalise, while Mummy goes skiing (with her own new yellow skis now.... how flashy!). I have to say thought, I saw her skiing for the 1st time in a while & she's much better..... Daddy will have to get practicing again or she'll be as good as you soon! Funny thing was the ducks didn't want our bread so we went to see the swans instead. they were very greedy, and made a very strange hissing noise when you went near. I did however remember my hand-threatening incident with a swan once & didn't get too close. Well I must give some thought as to how I can include Alfie into my world in a few weeks time & work on getting back to full fitness again. |
05/10/2003 | All Change |
Out with the old, in with the new.... nothing ever
stays the same for long. Alfie is now cruising around the furniture & causing me all
sort of grief (he just wants everything I'm playing with). Also I don't know if I'll see
Annalise & Luke at playgroup anymore as I seem to now be going in Brundall 2
days a week. I'll have to make sure that we still get to me regularly, as we always have
so much to talk (& fight) about. I'm coming on leaps & bounds with my PC mastery & my games are now starting to make real sense (Winnie the Pooh now does what I want him to.... its amazing). Last week was pretty boring as Alfie is a sick boy, so we've not been out much & had to cancel a trip to see Harrison, Darcey & Gracie who I hadn't seen for ages - baby brothers, who need them? That made a visit from Grandma & Grumps all the more enjoyable. Grumps was telling me all about his fishing... spending hours putting bits of fish into the sea to catch more fish, crabs & some funny sounding thing called a lob-star?. It does sound all a bit cruel, but then as I've come to learn already, life's like that sometimes. As well as wanting all my toys, Alfie has been pestering me to include him in Edie World, which up to now I've always refused. However, being financially astute I thought that rather than buy him a birthday present, I'd offer to spend time on making him part of Edie's electronic world, which we has very happy with........watch this space for tales of Alfie the beast! - Edie & Alfie world, whatever next?. |
28/09/2003 | Curly is an old Girl Now |
All my friends are now as old as me, curly Megs is now
3. After hearing her going on about her party at nursery, it came as no surprise that I
went to her party, and what a good one it was. Lots of things to explore, run, jump &
climb all over, and somewhere I'd not been before, aptly named 'Jump for Joy' - I
certainly did that. Thanks for the pictures of us at the Dinosaur
park, which I've made a collage with. I'd not really come down from that when Stephen arrived, with his Mum, Dad & baby brother. This was obviously pre-arranged, but I'd heard nothing on the grapevine from Stephen (either he wasn't telling - I'll interrogate him later, or he has not been listening carefully enough - tut, tut, you'll never learn any of the juicy gossip like that!). We had a good time & were mostly well behaved - until we has an argument over the most trivial of things - you know how it it chums, the big things don't matter, its the little things that count!). See what you think. I've now mastered this funny thing on the PC, called a mouse for some reason (although it looks nothing like any in my books), anyway I was showing Stephen some of my games, and he was helping on my special keyboard, when he obviously thought that after 10 minutes he could be an expert. Well, after several failed attempts it was clear that further coaching was required, but he refused my assistance. Thereafter a tug-o-mouse ensued & much screaming & wailing - funnily enough the only outcome was that the PC was switched off! - is there a lesson in here somewhere, was anyone in the right or wrong? |
21/09/2003 | New Friends & Old Faces |
I think I've just recovered, not only from my Devon
trip, but the shock & surprise of joining another playgroup. I'm now such a busy girl,
I've got something in my hectic schedule every day. This new group seems really nice &
I'm already a bit sad that I only go one morning a week. As I'll be going to school
(whatever that is) with some of the children I think it would be beneficial for my
development that I am there more... I'll have a word next week. So that was the new, so what about the old....(well she is at least a month older), a trip to the Dinosaur Park with Annalise. Having only been there with Megan recently I was able to show her all the best bits. I have to admit she was braver than me and went inside this huge dinosaur that you could climb about (but it looked a bit dark for me). We were both very brave & stroked this funny white animal called a Ferret (they looked like they would be really wiggly). All this, and a trip to Bungay to see Nanna & Grandad in their caravan, and a lovely tea outside in the field, for what might be the last time for a while as it started to get dark very quickly, we only just got to finish our food. After such a hectic week I need to go & have a lie down.... gosh look at the time.......night . |
14/09/2003 | 4 Go Mad in Devon |
Back from another long distance adventure, Devon this
time... why are they all so far away?. The car journey is really boring (although this
time we at least had some on my songs on the CD!) A bit more luxury that last time, we even had our own pool (well not in the cottage, that would probably be a leaky pipe, but just up the path. I had a couple of good splashes about in it, but nearly didn't return from one session as I was experimenting without my armbands and went a bit too deep, too quickly.... and sank! The beaches were huge, very long and wide (with these great rock-pools, with funny creatures in). Lots of people in these funny black suits running into the sea with these big ironing boards.... not sure what that is all about!, but I didn't fancy it as my big toe went numb just dipping it in. Although we went a few times I didn't really get a chance to top up my tan, so still a bit on the pale side for my liking. Visited the best indoor playground ever with these huge slides that went straight down (you went soooo fast even Mummy was really scared, but got down eventually). There were so many different things to do I was in there ages. I was temped away by the sheep racing, yes sheep with teddies on their backs running around a track, like horses on the TV..... very funny. We went on this funny train thing that went up the side of a cliff. How it didn't fall off puzzles me, as I know it was steep as I walked down the hill. I heard it worked on water, so I must try drinking some before I next need to climb up something steep. Alfie seemed to enjoy himself, although I have to be honest at times the town (or in this case the cottage) was not big enough for the 2 of us, and things did get a bit touchy between us - we both clearly need our space. An early couple of snaps to be going on with... more to follow. |
07/09/2003 | People Buy Such Rubbish! |
It looks like Alfie is now a permanent fixture at
nursery, so I'll keep an eye on him, just until he's old enough to take care of himself,
although if I'm honest he already does a mean hair pull! An otherwise eventless week, except for a visit to a strange place where we met Grandma, Grumps, Ben & Catherine. There were rows of people trying to sell what I can only describe as old rubbish from the backs of their cars / vans. I'll admit there was the odd good looking toy, but you really had to search for it, most of it was so dirty & broken.... what a weird place this 'car boot sale' - it is what is says on the tin I suppose. As you can imagine, as girl has to have certain standards & I managed to resist the call of the trash & got a big, bright bear (he almost glows, he's that bright), that is supposed to look like Winnie the Poo, but doesn't really. Ben & Catherine bought what I can only describe as a battered looking box (which I'm sure had something interesting in it) & Grandma some banana's (which I'm sure it would have been easier to buy in the supermarket, or have it delivered to your home like mummy does.... ooops hope that wasn't meant to be a secret that you don't really shop properly). I'm on holiday next week, so I'll be a bit late with the next instalment, but hopefully it will be worth waiting for. |
31/08/2003 | Wild Wedding... no, not mine! |
Me, a child bride.....I don't think so. I've far too
much to do & explore, without having to worry about boys... maybe some other time! No this was someone else's wedding, related to Mummy I think, but hey that was irrelevant, as once I saw that Robert was there, it really didn't matter.... the fun we had! As with many things in life (as I know already) there is often a price to pay for fun, and in this case we were in church again (only seems 5 minutes since they were splashing Rowan with water). However on this occasion I was not so constrained, and buoyed with the confidence of other toddlers was dared by Robert to lie in the main path running down the middle of the church..... yes, after the lady in the big white dress had gone past obviously! I did notice a man with a camera, so hope I make it into the final version of the file.... stardom at such a young age! Once we reached the party the fun started, helped by a bag of goodies and lots of room to run around & play. It was good to see Grandad get up & have a bit of a dance with me, although he seemed to get a bit tired after a while... no stamina! I had only a day to recover when we were whisked off with Megan to the Dinosaur Park, which was superb. So many climbing frames, swings and things to explore (including big dinosaur's... not real ones, just pretend in the woods). We ran & climbed all day, I was shattered. Alfie was again at nursery, so he seems to be bit of a regular. I will keep popping in to say hello & see he's alright.... well, you've got to look after these young defenceless boys haven't you. |
24/08/2003 | Where's Mummy Gone? |
I think I've just recovered from the Jack attack,
although it certain took me a couple of days to get my energy back.... phew! I've already learnt in my short life that there is nothing as certain as uncertainty, and this week proved this point once again. Normally off I go to nursery, wave good-bye to Mummy & Alfie, have a lovely time, get picked up by Dad & Mummy & alfie are at home waiting for me............not anymore!. This time instead of leaving Alfie in the car, he came into nursery & stayed there!... was he lost, confused?... I know I certainly was! Even more confusing, half way through my tea I heard a familiar sounding car, and moments later spotted Daddy in the baby room with Alfie? My poor little head didn't know what was going on. We all went home, but no Mummy, where had she gone? - left us for being bad children... all sorts of thoughts went through my head. This happened again the next day, although no Daddy in the baby room this time. I know this as I spent most of the time in there just in case he tried to make another surprise visit. I am relieved to have found the answer, and luckily I haven't been abandoned, Mummy has gone back to work. Just like Daddy does, but just not for so long. This means that we'll have Daddy all to ourselves every night after nursery..... I still don' know whether to be kind & well behaved, or mess him about something rotten.... what tdo do think, or even do yourselves chums, let me know. |
17/08/2003 | Tasmanian Jack |
This English obsession with the weather, its obviously
genetic as I'm already finding myself complaining to anyone that will listen (or can't get
away fast enough) about how its too hot, too windy, too cloudy etc. I don't know why as
nothing I've said has ever seemed to make a difference. Fortunately on Saturday (I'm getting to grips with these day things now) it wasn't too hot, as I spent most of it outdoors. Firstly with Stephen, who's off on holiday to that Scot-Land place again (it must be good as he goes there a lot), then the whirlwind struck.... in the shape of Jack & Erin. To be fair Erin was as much could up in the storm as making it, as Jack was doing enough running, banging, crashing & general mayhem for all us toddlers - where does he get the energy, even I was getting tired at the end of it. He did however give me a handy tip of how to open Dad's new bolt on the back gate (clever stuff Jack!, I'd never thought of climbing up the gate like that to get at the latch), which led to a number of mass escapes from our back garden prison, which brought the guards scurrying to catch us. I slept soundly that night I can tell you, before almost being frozen to death in my favourite big bath pool. I did remember overhearing Mum say that the heating was not working properly, but I was expecting it to be that cold - I'm sure if I looked hard enough I'd have seen ice bergs!. Fortunately, I trip to a playground soon warmed me up, and ready to another week of toddler adventures. |
10/08/2003 | Roasting Hot |
From one extreme to another, first my face gets all
smashed up, although my surgeon did a superb job & you'd now never know the extent of
my injuries, now I'm being cooked alive, its sooooooooo hot! Doing anything is such a struggle, and I know I've been very short tempered, so I'll apologise some more... its the heat you see, not the terrible 3's - honest. As well as being tired, this heat has made me terribly accident prone.... I've barely got any skin left on my knees, and they are constantly covered in plasters..... very attractive. At least these were at the end, rather than the beginning, of some excellent scooting & cycling sessions with Stephen..... I feel I'm almost ready for exploring further, I'll have to drop a few subtle hints. A Lowestoft double header & an unexpected visit from Uncle Jason, Auntie Helen & Sophie (who seemed a bit alarmed at the Alf beast scooting up to her at high speed). I'll have a quiet world with him for you. I've been in boats before, but not the 2-Girl kind, so what a treat it was to go floating along on the water, rather than it it, cos it was freezing!, with Sophie, who acted like the captain of a large yacht. Uncle Jason was a brave boy, pulling us about the sea, and mummy even had a splash about, but why she still had her sun glasses on I don't know..... poser! |
03/08/2003 | Bleeding to Death |
See what I mean, the clone thing, its no idle
conspiracy theory.... its obviously very real! I'm lucky to be talking to you, as I nearly didn't make it back from a trip to see my cousin's, Robert, Rowan & Sophie. After another of those seemingly endless car journey's, finally a chance to stretch my legs and run around chasing Robert in his house. All was going well for at least 10 minutes when all I can remember is catching a glimpse out of the corner of my eye of something travelling at high speed, and then my poor nose exploding in pain, and worse..... blood running out of it - aaaaaaaaaaahhh! Well, all I could do was scream, and wipe blood all over myself & anyone else that tried to help - hope it came out of your clothes everyone. Fortunately, it stopped bleeding quite quickly, but it has left me terribly disfigured, as you can see. I had a great time playing, without further injury with lots of people that has all come to see Rowan have water painted on her by some man in a long white dress, in a church, where everyone had to sit, stand, sit, stand and mumble these funny words - seemed like some weird cult ceremony to me - bizarre. Fortunately, I was able through my toddler network call a fine plastic surgeon friend of mine, who fixed my nose, so back to my former elegant self - how vain I know! I'm afraid I haven't the energy to say anymore - these sunny days are ok, but I just can't sleep, so sorry to all those I've been a stroppy hag to. |
27/07/2003 | Attack of the Clones |
We are definitely not alone, or unique, but I fear
merely products of a great mysterious factory, that only has a limited range of different
faces... just like our dolls. What has led you to this bizarre revelation, I hear you babbling to yourself. Well, this time Edie is not only asking you to 'trust me', although my loyal followers, I know you do, but picture proof of my own clone. I think they rely upon our selective, and very short term memories (that we make Mum & Dad believe we have) to get away with the fraud, but with the power of my miniature camera, I have unearthed this worrying practice. I pose you the same challenge as I gave myself, who is who? As I need to ponder the implications of this discovery some more, I'll leave you with the thought, where is your clone.... are they watching you now?. |
20/07/2003 | Exclusive Rare Footage! |
More playtime in the sun has finally brought a bit of
colour to my arms & legs, although you can hardly notice the latter for all the
bruises (more of that later), and I definitely look better for it. My friends seem fully recovered from their plagues, and normal service was resumed at nursery, with the full crew causing its usual chaos. An unexpected treat, with a visit to see Amanda (although I was a bit freaked by the dogs, one of which was blind & kept sniffing me!). We had a nice picnic & played loads of hide&seek in the woods - I was exhausted. My week was finished nicely by a visit from Nanna & Grandad, who got to see my scootering skills as I sped around the close on my pink Barbie scooter. Alas only the following day, buoyed up by this fine display, disaster.... one high speed manoeuvre too many and I came to grief, leaving a large piece of my knee on the pavement..... pain like nothing else, I nearly fainted! Funny though, its amazing the recovery you can make, assisted only by lots of hugs and a few smarties! I have been able to get the briefest snippet of the crawling Alfie beast, as I continue to spend most of my time fending him off my toys - the battle lines are well & truly drawn, with hourly battles for supremecy. |
13/07/2003 | Faster than a Speeding Bullet! |
'Is it a bird.... is it a plane..... no its Alfie
crawling at high speed around MY house!. I cannot bring you the promised secret footage, as every time I've set my camera trap, he's been too fast & I've been left with just pictures of feet!. Our current playful phase (I'm sure that Alfie's squeals are just for effect) reminds me of this Roadrunner cartoon that I saw the other day, where this funny animal kept trying to catch this fast moving bird thing, but always ended up missing (and getting badly hurt, which did not seem like a good idea). Well, another week, another party. This time the last of the posse, my friend Jo. I hope I performed as expected at the party although I was a bit tired (too much sun & sea - we'd just been to the beach) & a bit of the lurg still left from the day before - thanks to Alfie. Anyway we all seem to be a bit better, Stephen over the road is over the pox, the sun is shining, the pool looks inviting....the blissful life of a youngster. Now I just need to work on that tan, and everything will be perfect. |
06/07/2003 | Creepy Crawly |
'Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the
water.....' or in my case to turn my back for 5 seconds, people who didn't move much
before are suddenly everywhere!! Yes, the day of reckoning has finally arrived, Alfie is
now an official creepy crawly, and getting about rather too quickly for my liking already. I can only assume he had been conducting secret practice sessions, as there were no obvious signs the day before (with Ben, Catherine, Grandma & Grumps). However the very next day he just decided enough was enough & started scampering around the place like he owned it!!! This, as you can imagine, has been most inconvenient as I cannot guarantee that the things I want left alone, don't get grabbed. Already this has led to the odd tussle & tug of war (current score 3 - 0 in my favour, but he has got a fair grip for a youngster). I have however found that a body check is quite effective, as is the all-else-fails approach of lying on him works a treat, and gives me a well deserved breather from the confrontation. Aside from this, I had a great bike ride in the country with Annalise (although she didn't do much cycling of her own - not sure why) & lots of fun at her house afterwards. Also a lovely swim & slide at the big pool, where I have definitely found myself to be far quicker down the slide if I am not held back by Mum or Dad, so solo flights only from now on. I'll see if I can sneak some secret footage of the Alfie crawly in the next few days just to show what a beast he is. Wish me luck in my ongoing contests chums....let the battles commence!. |
29/06/2003
3 Years Old |
A Non Stop Party for the Birthday Girl |
Yes another week, another year, in the short but
eventful life of Edie Wright..... I'm 3! Does that mean I'm supposed to be all grown
up?... if so too bad, I've still lots of minxing to do before I'm ready to go sensible. Its been one celebration after another, I feel like one of those Socialites. After the camping it was straight into a day with Grandma & Grumps, having been relieved to get my pink Barbie scooter (well done Mum & dad for listening!). We had some excellent fun at Fritton Lake (didn't I go there last year for my birthday as well?). As well as the big slides, I went on this funny little boat with Mum & Dad, which you had to peddle like a bike (lucky I just sat in the back and watched as it looked like hard work. Meanwhile Grumps had these big bits of wood that he was stirring the water with from in his boat, strange I know, but he was going faster than us, so there must be something to it. Then there was another party at the fun factory with all my friends, except Stephen who's got the pox. I got so many presents I didn't know what to open & play with 1st - thank you to everyone for coming, I had a lovely time. Off to the woods next to see Uncle Jason, Auntie Helen & cousin Sophie who was recovering from the pox as well (will I be next for the dreaded lurg?). We had a lovely time messing about in the water, although it was the coldest pool I'd ever been in, my poor legs were blue. Alfie & Sophie seemed to enjoy themselves splashing everyone, including me - thanks! Finally, and before I slip into a long & well deserved sleep Uncle Ben, Auntie Catherine came to see me, and brought more presents. It was a warm day so my private pool had to make an appearance, but I could not have anticipated the dunking I got from Uncle Ben.... was it something I said ? So thanks again for all my lovely presents, the house & garage are quickly filling up & I've enough crayons to paint for England, so every surface in the house is in danger of being re-coloured................. |
22/06/2003 | Happy Campers |
The hot weather continues, but I still haven't got that
elusive tan - pale is not interesting! An ordinary week turned into an extraordinary weekend with a camping trip with Nanna, Grandad, Shelly, Tom, Rowan & Robert. No Jason, Helen or Sophie as got the dreaded pox.... me spotty, no thanks!. So in honour of our absent friend Robert & I proceeded to use up enough energy for 3, and I think we just about did it (especially seeing as Robert was asleep all Sunday morning while I nipped down the pub for opening time & a quick beer). The site was by the river and as well as lots of boats going up & down, there were lots of people with these long poles, sitting on the river bank, who seemed to be waiting for something (although very little ever seemed to happen!). I now know this is fishing, where the idea is to catch fish from the river... there must be an easier way surely, if a toddler like me can have a website, fishing..... mad or what!. I will soon be reaching that milestone of a whole 3yrs old, more of that next week, however the camping was a bit of an advanced party, and some lovely presents, as you can see we've still got someway to go before the rollerblades are mastered (those doubters amongst you, please note I do share, occasionally!). As fun as camping is, more so now with my own Edie sleeping bag, its nice to return to your own bed, as you can't slep as well lying on the ground. So good night for the last time as a 2yr old. |
15/06/2003 | Hot, but not bothered |
Phew, what a scorcher.....summer has definitely arrived
& the sun is roasting hot. Not exactly the sort of weather for tearing around, but you
know me by now, when has such a trivial thing ever stopped me before!... exactly. So much fun in the sun, trip to Steven's house and great fun in his garden with tunnels, tents & a real trampoline (not just a bouncy bed) to play on. We were playing very nicely until... I put it down to the sun (as I hadn't been drinking for a change).. we just seemed to tire of playing and fancied a bit of a scrap! It was all over in a flash and with one slap round the face each and much wailing the contest was over, result score-draw. Thank fully my private swimming pool made its first appearance of the summer & Sunday was spent frolicking about in the garden (splashing Alfie whenever possible), however you can see how much he enjoyed it. As it has been almost too hot to sleep the past couple of nights, I'm really tired now, so chums remember the sun tan cream, not too high a factor though, as we all want a bit of a tan don't we - there's is brown, pale & interesting and there is white - I know what I want to be, a bronzed beauty! |
09/06/2003 | Flying Teddies |
The fun just keeps on comin' - I'd hardly recovered
from the last weekend when it was headlong into another fun packed session, with my cousin
Robert not only some top chasing around Nanna & Grandad's garden & house, but
something very strange (but still great fun)... teddy parachuting!. Yes you've read correctly, helpless teddy friends flung from the top of a tall tower with nothing but an overgrown handkerchief to break their fall. Fortunately I had not brought any of my cuddly friends along they were spared, their placed however taken by other, equally valiant volunteers. I am pleased to report that all daredevils returned safely, although one of Roberts had to be hauled, in what must have been a painful manner, out of a tree that a sudden gust of wind had blown him. Or was it another daring escape attempt - given that he is a character from the film Chicken Run, quite possible me thinks. As there may still be some non-believers out there who are thinking that these warm nights have finally scrambled poor Edie's brains, and that such a thing a Teddy parachuting does not go on, especially in this supposedly civilised country of ours, here is the proof. |
02/06/2003 | Uncle Ben, but no Rice! |
Sorry, now I'm beginning to learn about these joke
things I just had to try one out... its poor I know but I'm only little. Phew, there is just no let up in the pace of life in Edie world, its just one thing after another.... all good stuff at the moment though. Having just about recovered from the tractor fest, Uncle Ben & Catherine came to stay and a good time was had by all (or I hope so, as I did). The next day was another fun packed affair, with a feeding session for the ducks, and those' nibble, nibble hand' swans, with obviously some bread consumed by me. Followed by another favourite... the pub, some good food & fine beer (although I'm definitely becoming more of a wine girl if I'm honest, particularly a good full-bodied red). I was then able to demonstrate my full range of cycling skills, fortified by the lunchtime drink, a high speed, but remarkably no-crash display was enjoyed by the appreciative crowd. Alas all too soon Ben & Catherine were gone, but I did get to see lots of trains, and overhear that we should be seeing them again soon.... hope so. |
25/05/2003 | More fun, but no Pictures |
I start with an apology, the pictures I promised
of my Butlins adventure may never see the light of day, as they seem to have been replaced
by something that only happened the other day....oops!, maybe I haven't quite mastered the
technology yet... so you'll just have to take my word for it that I had lots of fun. Another week, another fun packed weekend. A swimming trip with a difference (Curly Megs came to with her Mum & Dad). I think her confidence was shaken by a fall on the edge of the pool, as she didn't want to go down the slide or jump in..... next time I'm sure. Well I've made a new discovery, I go much faster down the water slide on my own, and so now I'm desperate to break free at every chance. An evening with Grandma followed which was really nice, some quality time without Mum & Dad.... (I'm sure they felt the same if they were honest!). Then a visit to a strange place just down the road, a steam rally... whatever that is. All I can say was that there were loads of big tractor like things that puffed out smoke, and smelt like a fire. Some were boring, but some were sawing wood or digging holes which was pretty impressive. Of course the best bit involved a bit of speed & danger. They had this big inflatable slide which was really fast.... I thought I'd shoot right of the end. Not everything was enjoyable as it seemed as this big wheel was a bit too big, and I got a bit scared I was going to fall off... even with Mum holding on tight. Again I hoped to bring you pictures, but these again are no more. The only evidence I have is of these big, bright horses that went round & round & up & down... again pretty fast. After all this excitement, time for a lie down I think. |
18/05/2003 | Fun without the Sun |
Well the tactic of laying low for a few days definitely
paid off as there was little in the way of 'aftershocks', and I have to say I am again
enjoying my trips to nursery & playgroup. Mum is definitely relieved that I
don't keep going on about how I don't want to go, it must be music to her ears. I'd been piecing together this information, a bit of from Annalise, some from Jack, another snippet from Victoria, about this place called 'Butlins', but none of us really knew what it was all about, anyway all was about to be revealed.... and WOW! (I'm still getting over it so pictures to follow next week). What a place, not only were most of my besttest chums there, but so many things to do.... dancing to LOUD music, swimming in the most fantastic pool ever (with slides & water that moved so you don't even have to swim!, and so warm it was like a bath), and the real Noddy, who's car we got to drive. It was such a fun place, and with so many other young people you could really forget that Mum & Dad were there.... until they needed to pay for your next drink of course! The only downside was that I'm used to quality accommodation, both at home & away in the cottages we normally stay in, but this was not so nice. My bed was alright, until I weed in it (not my fault as someone forgot to put a nappy on me when I went to bed & when I woke up I was bursting to go). There were no luxuries to speak of & whilst I'm all for personal hygiene & love a nice shower, you felt more likely to come out of the bathroom more dirty than you went in! Apologies for the snobbish outburst, but I think the youth of today, which I very much count myself as belonging to, needs to speak up on these important topics. Alas it was soon time to leave, but something was wrong with Mummy (obvious by the way she moved only slowly, kept lying down & made those strange being sick sounds in the bathroom). It turns out, after a further sick incident down the side of Dads car!!!!! that she had been out drinking beer with Jack's Mum Bernie & had obviously had too much....... I don't know what an example to set the impressionable young...... "Dad get me another wine please!" |
11/05/2003 | Teatime (and tantrums) with Stephen |
After a well deserved few days rest, and the
rediscovery of some of my former confidence....I'm pleased to report, the week finished
with a treat, a visit from Stephen, his Mum, Dad & baby brother Daniel. Obviously this should have been a nice time with good food, idle chat & friendly play.... and did it end up like that..............no. Firstly thought I must say, nothing at all wrong with the food (compliments to the chef), regrettably little time for idle chat (as mostly time was spent breaking up local disputes between me & Stephen). In our defence we were both tired & needed more space to express ourselves in.....caged tigers are not happy tigers! So I must go quickly & quietly now as the evening came to an earlier than expected end, as I think people had become tired of separating us, and didn't want anything, or anyone, to get broken!, and I don't want to get into any more trouble......... bye. |
04/05/2003 | 'Pox' to Pettit's |
After my 'all-clear' health message last week, imagine
my horror at the emergence of a pox-like rash on my legs and body. Only days after my
re-integration, I was once again denied my trips to nursery & instead set about
painting pictures (& the dining table). As things did not develop I was rewarded with
an overnight stay at Nanna & Grandad's. I returned to find a large part of my house a
different colour (Daddy had again been busy... but why he didn't get me to help after my
recent artistic exploits I don't know!). An unexpected treat was a trip with my friend Megan to Pettit's World of Adventure, where we had a great time, as you can see. I seem again Pox free & free to roam once again..... look out! |
27/04/2003 | Plague House to Fun-House |
Thankfully, the infection seems to have passed, and the
Edie house is no longer cut off from civilisation. Nursery continued to have the added bonus of a trip home on the back of Daddy's bike. Megan did look envious when she saw me (but I must say I'm rather jealous of her nice new car, so I make that about even!). I'll have too keep the entry brief as I'm recovering from a full on fun-fest with Annalise & Jo, who came to see me in the ex-Plague house, and we ran riot, both inside & out. I don't think I sat down for more than a minute in the 5 hours they were here. My feet hurt (as I didn't have any shoes on) and my tummy aches (from too much cake). Annalise & I had our usual love-hate session with plenty of hugs and kicks, whilst Jo ran around doing whatever we asked him (what an obedient servant). We all really liked the tent in the middle of the front room, which reminded us of our camping trip. There seemed to be some conversation on this subject, so who knows, maybe we'll be doing it again this year.... hope so. Its a shame it's too late for a bath as Mummy has got this Radox stuff that makes for a really relaxing soak in the bath, which I could really do with... maybe tomorrow.... night all. |
20/04/2003 | Return of the 'Plague House' |
Whether it was something that my friends from the North
left behind, or another case of that SARS virus I've been reading about, the youngest
member of the household has been struck down, and we are once again plunged into
quarantine. Out goes the promised visit by Jason, Helen & Sophie (which would have been a good change to get some gossip from afar)... also out a day trip to see Robert, Shelly & Tom (along with Nanna & Grandad, of course). I expect you are waiting to hear of the wild adventures I had instead, despite these setbacks, well I'll manage your expectations, there were some highlights, spraying Dad with the garden hose was definitely one, and Grandma & Grandad Grumps visit, who brought along Uncle Ben & Catherine (who's picture I really must add to the family tree... sorry). They seem to be planning some great adventure to somewhere or something called 'Shaley'? I don't know really, I must listen more closely next time. I hope to learn more as they should be coming to stay in a few weeks. Alfie seems to be getting better so hopefully I won't be stuck in the close for too much longer, as my cycling legs want to get out exploring. |
13/04/2003 | Rays of Northern Sun |
You'll be pleased to learn of an upturn in my mood
since my last report, brought about by the completely unexpected visit of my Northern
chums, Jason & Louise. As I'd not seen them since before Alfie was born, it again took
awhile to get used to their funny accents, but I got there in the end. We had an excellent time in the sun, with a superb trip to the woods where there was every type of climbing thing ever imagined.... which I obviously just had to try. I also went the highest ever on a swing, thank to Louise's tireless efforts! The next day was equally fun, with a trip to feed the ducks, although as we got there before dinner time there weren't as many about as usual. On the way back I saw a real snake (non-poisonous I hope!), then on walk by the river, another snake swimming.... which I didn't know they could do! We then had a trip back on a boat (Alfie's first). I thought I'd be warm enough in my fleece but I hadn't bargained on the chill that came with being on the water, I nearly climbed inside my life-jacket to keep warm. After all that I think I need a well deserved lie down. |
06/04/2003 | Mentally Drained! |
Things have been little better, with only a slow
re-introduction to my normal round of social engagements. Something else quite disturbing
has happened... I'm scared of everyone! I know, those who know me will be thinking that
this is some late April fool trick, but alas no, I am no longer the confident, outgoing
person I was, and become hysterical (by my own admission) whenever Mum & Dad are not
around (even when I'm with Nanna's or Grandads). so apologies to everyone I saw recently
who would have been surprised & potentially hurt by my unusual behaviour. I don't know why it is, or what I can do to rediscover my old self, it just that the smallest thing seems to freak me out. So if anyone can recommend a good kiddie counsellor then I'd be grateful. All of this is making my reintegration into toddler society a slower & more painful process than I'd hope, and given that I didn't even catch the pox, all the more difficult to see any positives from. Sorry to leave you on such a downer, but that just how it is....................... |
30/03/2003 | The Plague House! |
The best of times.... the worst of times, and in such
quick succession. From the of fun times with Robert to feeling like death warmed up, in
just a few days. All I can say is that at least I have company in my suffering with both
Mummy & now Alfie also afflicted. Robert.... did we get this from you? If so, I'll be
having words when I see you again! I really haven't anything much to say really, as I haven't been anywhere! No Nursery, No new Playgroup with Annalise, No Jumping Jack's..... just my little world inside the 'Plague House'. Lets hope I get out of quarantine in time for my next report, so I have something to say. |
23/03/2003 | My Brother is a Property Tycoon! |
Where did I go wrong? Having been whisked away on
another surprise holiday, we arrived at our accommodation, and do you know what it was
called.... Alfie's Cottage! So, the sly old fox has already been cutting a few property
deals, and there I was thinking that he was just lying there with that innocent smile on
his face.... what a trusting fool I've been. Anyway despite this shock, I had a superb time in some place called the Cotswolds.... very pretty, and hilly (although I was mostly carried up & ran back down again - well that's what you do when skiing, so why not eh!). The unexpected surprises didn't end with the property, but with the visit of Robert, Auntie Shelly, Uncle Tom & Roberts baby sister Rowan (who's smaller, and much quieter, than Alfie). We had some fun chasing round and round, that was until I nearly knocked myself out bouncing off the bed.... Dad was there to catch me a second before but moved for some reason! All that exercise is supposed to be good for you, but I don't feel very well, and nor does Mummy, so I'm off to my sick-bed...... |
16/03/2003 | I want to Ride my Bicycle..... |
I have yet to follow up last weeks promise of more
minxing just yet, and have instead been channelling my energies into more productive
behaviour. Firstly, cat lifting... now anyone who has ever tried lifting a cat (especially when they don't really want to be lifted) will know how tricky they can be to geta good grip on. Well practice make perfect, and now my cat Lilly can go wherever I want he to (as I pick her up & take her to the selected destination). Second, and far more noteworthy, I've finally grown legs long enough to crack this bike that I've had since Nanna & Grandad kindly gave it to me last year. I can now speed round the close with my good buddy Stephen in his reclining vehicle. Going down even the slightest of hills allows for good acceleration, but these uphills are a bit on the tough side, and hurt your legs after a while....I'm sure its all good exercise to keep those legs nice & toned. |
09/03/2003 | Sunday Should be Renamed 'Fun-day' |
The good time just keep on rollin', with the highlights
seeming more and more frequently to be at the weekends, especially Sundays. This last
episode has left me drained, and in need of some serious rest. Normally a run around at the ski slope with Annalise & Jo, or a trip to the Fun Factory is enough to wear me out, but on this occasion I made it through both, one after the other! Having finished the ski slope fun (Mum the skiing is definitely getting better), rather than a lie down, there was barely time for a quick change when we were out of the door & into the Fun Factory with Jack. All credit to Jack, for a youngster (he's a whole 3 months younger don't you know) he was pretty agile, although he bottled it on the big curly slide from the top! He was however responsible for the most spectacular incident of the day, when obviously tired, like myself, & obviously having been watching 1 too many circus programs on TV, though himself as a trainee knife thrower. With 1 quick, unpredictable action a knife when arcing through the air, striking a fellow diner on the back of the head!!! fortunately no serious harm was done, but all the same we felt it wise to eat up quickly and leave quietly. In a strange way I was heartened by this incident as I was screaming to myself.... Hurrah, I'm not the only naughty one, I'm not the only naughty one.....we're all like it....... the relief I tell you was immense, and a green light for more minxing. |
02/03/2003 | A Dogs Life..... and not a bad one! |
Having reflected on recent events, I have made a
special effort to be a good girl, and hope this has not gone unnoticed. When I was whisked of to Nanna & Grandad's (nothing strange about that as regular readers will know), without Dad, and with not just 1 sleepover, not even 2, but 3 nights away from my special bed.... I started to wonder. I did however make sure I got full value from all the usual attention, and think I was also helpful in my own small way.... helping to take those mad dogs (Sam & Ella) for a walk on the beach every morning. To have the chance to run around in all that space every day.... just fetching sticks, stones or whatever else is thrown for them (sorry I can't get it to go very far - I'm only little after all).... what a lovely life. All too soon it was back to nursery & high jinx with my chums & a return home... when all became clear. The bedroom that doubles as my trampoline had changed colour & been tidied up (looking a bit too smart now if I must say, especially as it look like Alfie will be sleeping there soon, judging by his cot). Daddy must have been a busy boy, and why he didn't come to Nanna & Grandads.... so it was just me being a paranoid toddler after all... girls eh, who'd have them! |
23/02/2003 | A Love / Hate Relationship |
It is clear that you can't like all of the people all
of the time, even at my tender age & supposed limited intelligence I've worked that
one out for myself. Having tried sooo hard to be a good girl, event this week have shown
that I have my limits, and Saint Edie can't always be good. I mostly like the novelty of the trips shopping with Mummy, but this time I wasn't really in the mood, and I wasn't getting what I wanted so made things a little difficult (as you do!). I redeemed myself at Grandma & Grandad Grumps with almost impeccable behaviour and am impressive display of football skills. I had obviously used up all my good behaviour for the week, and was skilfully provoked into showing my darker side. All started well with Annalise & me watching our mummies skiing. After a while we'd seen every bit of the room, and played with the pathetic array of broken toys, so we started to turn on each other. Here is where the provocation comes in. Just as I know what winds Annalise up, so she knows how to make me mad, and we ended up shouting & pushing - not all the time I hasten to add. Well this best friend / worst enemy thing carried on at Joe's house (who kept himself at a safe distance as the critical times). I think I'd put the result down as a scoring draw, as she gave as good as she got - fair play, best buddy! |
16/02/2003 | A Walk in the Deep Freeze |
After last weeks revelations of thuggery, I've made an
extra special effort to be on my best behaviour, and I think I've been good (especially
for me). A nice treat awaited a visit to Nanna & Grandad, with an ever growing cousin Sophie there to see me. She did appear to be enjoying herself, sitting up and knocking over anything within reach..... how I remember those days of innocence - they play havoc on your stomach muscles, after 6 months of lying down I can tell you! A regular readers will know how I like my trips to the beach, to see the sand & sea, well after this visit I'll be looking for a weather report before venturing out, as I was lucky to return alive!. I should have know judging by the layers of clothing that everyone was putting on, and the fact the Nanna & Grandad were not even going to leave their house. Anyway we reached the beach and I nearly froze on the spot, despite all my thickest clothes. I bravely made it to the sea (more than Mummy & Alfie did), but did little more than look at it before making a quick exit, for the warmth of a cosy cafe & a glass of orange squash. A lesson my toddler chums, never think it is warm outside until you have been out there, appearances from behind the glass of the window can be deceptive - wrap up warm of freeze!. |
09/02/2003 | Fighting with Your Friends! |
In my defence, I put the events of the past week down
to the sudden disappearance of the snowman, and the adverse effect on my inner balance
that this obviously had. Having watched with some sadness the final demise of my prize snowman, life returned to its now familiar routines, with very little worthy of mention. Then having resigned myself to this uninteresting pattern, I was pleasantly surprised by the arrival of Annalise, Debbie & Harvey - which was obviously an invitation for some full-on minxing!. Having worn out the carpet through running round in circles, and nearly bounced poor Annalise off the makeshift trampoline that is the bed in the spare bedroom, I can only put my largely, but not wholly, unprovoked attack on my best friend with a wooden brick to the head as a result of some form of altered state brought about by the rapid departure of not one, but two snowmen.... without so much as a goodbye! Fortunately she wasn't too badly hurt as she proved by having a retaliatory, but have have to say I deserved my time in the sin-bin, and am sorry. All seemed to have been forgotten by the time she left, so I hope she's not still plotting her revenge for the next time we meet. Who needs enemies when you can have a friend like me! |
02/02/2003 | Cold Fun! |
I got a most unexpected treat with lots of real snow to
play with, and not just having to be content with pictures of the stuff. This was
particularly welcome as Annalise made me sad the other day by reminding me that this was
when we went skiing last year.... and that we were not going this time.... thanks to Alfie
& Harvey! No matter, if Edie can't go to the snow... the snow shall come to Edie.
The snow fun was topped off with a trip to see the skiers, with the difference that Dad took my skis and I had a little go myself (definitely better than last time). By the time Annalise & me had finished our high-speed sledging I was ready to drop... I don't know ho Kerry was still standing as he'd been pulling us around for ages (what a good work horse he was.... Annalise has obviously got him well trained!). The snow has now all but gone and poor snowman has lost his head and both arms, and is fast becoming just a blob, so like him I'll just melt away.... until next time. |
26/01/2003 | Revenge of the Potty! |
Life can be cruel sometimes (I've learned that already,
even at my tender age). Just when you think you are making progress to be proud of, in my case seemingly winning the battle with the potty,.... something comes back to get you. In this case the early warning signs that my body was giving me that a wee was imminent seem to have gone, or I'm too busy minxing to notice them. Whatever, progress has been swiftly backwards this past week with a number of embarrassing & very public 'accidents' - the worst was with my friends, I just hope they weren't too bothered by my soggy state. I had a nice swim with Mum, Jo & Kirsty and definitely feel that my wild thrashings are a little more coordinated, and as a result progress through the water more sedate - hopefully swimming will be back more regularly as it really is good fun. I just hope Alfie graduates from the bath to the pool soon so I can give him a real soaking!!! |
19/01/2003 | Junior Supermodel |
Lucky that I didn't lose a finger in the
frenzied duck attack I reported last week, or my career as a junior
supermodel could have been extremely short lived, as there is probably not
much photo work for a disfigured toddler!!!! I'm sure you are wondering just what I'm going on about, well I was recently asked to play to the camera with Alfie & just thought I'd try and be sensible for once & see what the result was. As you can see I don't scrub up too badly for a tearaway toddler if I say so myself). If there is pressure on us supermodels to be thin, then no such problems for me as I've lost plenty of weight recently as I was sick over & over again. Sick over my bed, myself, the floor, Mummy, and the bathroom - it was horrible, my bedroom still stinks of spew!!!! It just came on without warning (I hear that Jo was ill with something similar so I blame him..... just he wait til I see him again). I'm off to recover from a fun time at Grandma & Grandad Grumps & lunch with Megan so be good, or very bad my toddler chums. By the way, I've cracked this wee business (potties & toilets every time, but this poo business is still a mystery (nappy required), any tips? |
11/01/2003 | Nursery Returns |
I really think that late night for the
New Year continues to mess me up, I've only just noticed that last weeks
diary date was wrong.... and no-one told me (perhaps no-one cares!). Some continued steps to normality with the welcome return (for me, I don't know whether the lovely staff would say the same though) to nursery & the chance to compare Christmas stories and present lists with my chums. I certainly can't complain, we all seemed to get something a bit different, but certainly my haul compared favourably, so I don't feel short-changed & under-loved!. I hope the few flakes of snow is not all I get to play in this year. I know I'm not going skiing this year (Alfie's too small), so I will not have my winter wonderland like last time, but I hope there is some more at home. I know its been cold as we went to feed the ducks on the river and it was covered in ice. This didn't stop the ducks from coming after me & my bread.... they are sooo cheeky they try and get it out of your hand, or bag, (after my previous scare with the Swan, I really don't like these things trying to nibble my hands - I could loose a finger!!!!!!). I survived, and was warmed by a packet of crisps and some beer at a nearby pub, which I could certainly get used to. Until next time. |
03/01/2003 | Another Year is Here (and I was awake to see it!) |
I think I've finally got round to playing
with all of my new toys, and what a haul of fantastic things they are. I've got this fabulous wooden dolls house with everything in it that a real house has... beds, chairs, tables, even a shower & toilet!.... seeing is believing. I'm already having so much fun with it. Also this little machine that plays the sounds of the Tweenies, seemingly from these small tapes, no idea how it works but great to have stories on the move. There is also an extensive collection of new books & puzzles (the Winnie the Poo one is especially good, and nearly covers the whole floor when its done... its huge!) Start how I mean to go on, as far as my New Years celebrations are concerned, I had a superb time at Annalise's house, where we played, chased & fought, until after 12:00!!!!!, my latest night ever by some distance. However even at my tender age I've learned that there is always a price to pay, and I paid with such tiredness as I've never known before, that lasted well into the next day that led Nanna & Grandad to see another glimpse of my dark-side, as I couldn't keep my angelic mask in place all day....... oh dear I hope that they don't think too bad of me. After I introduced Edie World to Alfie the other evening, he has been pestering me for something for him, which he wants me to do as his little fingers are not yet any good on my laptop keyboard. I've therefore generously created Alfie's Corner, which I've said I'd help him with until he's big enough to do it himself - It's the 1st item on the menu - check it out. |
